I was just wondering how many of you use standard cables that usually comes with equipment or do you use Monster, Mogami or any other high end cable's?

    I use standard cables.

There might be a difference in quality between the cheapest cables and decently shielded cables but monster cables & co are scam.

NI USB cables are good quality and have a Ferrite core/block that suppress noise.

You know, im aware of Monster Cables (i hear people talking about them) and im aware that some shops sell them but i have never seen one in the UK. Never.

All those over priced cables are a waste of money.
Hosa cables are quite good, or make your own, just buy good ends.

Since I bought my first Synthesizer in 1988 I use always shielded and reliable cables (in Germany is Klotz a manufactor with a good value) and the quality connectors from Neutrik. Also the USB wiring is shielded and so I have nearly no humms, noise or drop outs when I do my Party DJ job.
It is worth it to take care about cables and spend a little bit more.
But that's all about reliability and not about the "higher" quality of the audio, but who will hear the difference between a mp3 and a SACD in a Club after 6 beers and 2 chicks ;-)

Yup, I guess you need to draw a line between
Cheap - Those from the Dollar store (or 99 cents store in USA)
Decent - Those coming with the product.
Good - Hosa, Neutrik, Digiflex and so forth
"So called good" - those over priced one i.e. 35$ for a 3 feet RCA cable

I Avoid Y & extension cable, less joints, less chances to have problems. On the freak side, I avoid to plug, unplug my gear all the time.

I use high quality cables for all my studio gear and just picked up the MOTU interface (UltraLite mk3) for my TP setup and was wondering should I go the same route due to the fact I'm using MP3's...

perhaps this comic will help you understand: http://www.tf2killcams.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/bacon-love.jpg

EDIT: back on topic, in the case of audio leads, and decently shielded cables over the short length required for DJ gear (<2m) will do fine, Monster and the like are aimed at over-cashed idiots who want the "best" for their rather mediocre home theatre...

Save your money and get good standard cables with gold tips. I have cables, I bought that were similar to Monster Cable, but for a less price which I never use because they were a pain to use on at gigs. The two problems I commonly ran into the cables were hard to route in a tight booth, because of the how stiff the cable were. They are great at home for permanent setups, but not really meant for mobile gigs. Also the ends would grip so tight, that I ripped a RCA jack out a mixer at a gig once.

Imo, gold-plated tips in audio, video, or USB cables are a cheap marketing ploy. Gold does nothing for signal quality, tin is just as good.

Actually gold is a better conductor, followed by silver and then tin. It's physics not marketing. Although that hasn't stopped the marketing people trying to cash in.

actually Silver is a better conductor (you can actually buy silver "pens" to repair/create tracks on a PCB) but gold stretches much more thinly, which is why it's used more often

but it is pretty pointless on plugs, as the plating just wears off with constant unplugging/replugging, only really useful on long term installations

In my post ITT, I said nothing about conductivity. Yes, gold is a better conductor than tin. My point is that I don't think you'll be able to hear, let alone measure differences in audio quality due to different plating.
