I use and own a older maschine studio, the newest maschine studio and a maschine jam. I also own and use a Ableton Push 2. I bought the Jam, because I love working with my Maschine Studios and wanted to have 64 pads just like my Push 2. (for better step sequencing, volume control with the touch strips, etc).

The Jam does indeed provide great step sequencing. Switching from "Maschine mode" to "Midi" mode to control Ableton has also been pretty amazing. That being said, I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed that the 64 buttons are exactly this. "Buttons" not "velocity sensitive pads".

I've seen arguments that NI doesn't want to cannibalize it's business by making it's feature sets too close to the other Maschine products, and if this is the case, I think this is a huge mistake. (If you don't cannibalize your own business, someone else surely will).

This could have been a strong competitor to the Ableton Push, and honestly even give it a run for it's money. But in it's current state, it's not even close. It takes it from being what could have been a flagship product to a mere a supplemental instrument. It's cheap enough, and that's great, but I would have honestly payed a few hundred dollars more for it to have been done right.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great things about it. I won't be selling it. But the "click" pads are annoying. Velocity sensitive pads would have made this from "meh" to amazing. NI please consider changing this in version 2.0....

Yes, these pads-click have been a big frustration for many of us. But in view of the size of the tiny buttons I think it would have been ridiculous to make them touch-sensitive.

I don't think so. There are a few products that have the same size pads that are touch sensitive. For bigger hands that might be a issue. They could make them a bit bigger.

Just think, NI could have made an IPad version of the Jam. ;)
