    What gives?

Service center has become useless unless I use it offline. Every time I launch it, it wants to self update. I let it. Then it restarts, and self-updates again, and again, and again.....

    Why?

Me too. There are some work arounds, go back a couple of days in this forum and look at similar threads.

    +1

I've got Komplete 5 + Kore 2 installed on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro (both running 10.5.7). ServiceCenter runs fine on the MacBook Pro. On the iMac, it hangs on "Performing self-update". I've let it run for hours and nothing happens.

ServiceCenter version on the hanging machine is 2.1.3.318

Same problem here, it just keeps self-updating. As i had to reinstall Maschine, now i can't use it anymore.
Running the latest SC 2.0.6 (exe version 2.3.1), impossible to activate my product.
Gonna dump that expensive paperweight and go buy myself a proper MPC. Last time i'll make the mistake of buying a NI product.

For me, the solution was to delete the Service Center application directory along with the /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Service Center directory and re-install Service Center. After I installed the 2.06 from the NI website, it self-updated a couple of times and now it's working.

That's really useful advice bud, thank you.

I have a similar issue on a separate thread, but I will try what you have suggested and see if it works when I get home this evening.

In my case the endless self-activation/restart cycle occured since NI's server was down (well, it still is). The Cancel button didn't work either. I had to to disconnect the ethernet cable in order to stop the cycle and to get in offline mode. In this way I was able to send NI my system ID by mail. Now I'm waiting for the activation codes. Hope they can sort it out, soon.

ive been eyeing all these "service center" and activation threads for a few days now because ive been having issues on a brand new MBP with brand new Traktor Scratch Pro and the service center going into an infinite loop updating/restarting.

i tried everything that was suggested up until the downtime yesterday when nothing could be done.

as soon as the native instruments site was back up again i tried again and it still looped. i tried the offline activation too but that gave a failure error with a not-too-detailed error message. i reinstalled the service center using the new version as found in the downloads section and that proved fruitless too.

but then just now (no less than 5 mins ago) i tried it one more time and as per Budbertzerofluff's post, i tried a few times and it has now finally worked and everything is activated!

looks like someone at NI has done something.

    Try This

I had just purchased Maschine, get it all installed ready to go, go to activate, and the same damn thing. Endless self-update loop. I tried the offline mode. Nothing. I tried registering it on NI website. NOTHING. But I noticed that I did not have a password for my newly created account. So I try to create an account online, but still did not receive password. Requested a new password be generated, still did not receive one.

So, about 5:30 this morning all the re-generated password suddenly came to my email. I went back on the site and clicked "forgot password" and got one more sent. This time it came right down. I then went back into service center, and as it starts, I go into preferences, and put that username information into the account settings and clicked on "Login using another account. Then I check off auto login and restart service center.

As soon as restart it, it comes up sees my product and asks me to to enter serial number. I do that, get an "successfully activated" message, and then all the updates come down.

So, the moral of the story: try adding in your NI account information manually in the SC preferences area.

OR, this could all be a coincidence.

    Thought I'd share! :D

I finally got the Service Centre to work by doing the following :

    1) uninstalling in Windows
    2) manually removing the Service Centre application folder
    3) Download latest Service Centre from NI Website
    4) Install and Run Service Centre.

It does 2 iterations of updates, but then launches quite happily and activation was a breeze after that.

Thank you for all the good advice on this thread.

    Steve.

Hey guys. I've been trying the method suggested, ie. un-install, manually delete files and plists, but it has not been working for me. Any ideas, or things I could be doing wrong?

After manual uninstalling, and re-installing a few times and many self-updates later, it just randomly worked. Come on NI, you really should be able to do better than this.

    Hello,

we can understand the confusion that happens at the moment, and sincerly apologize for this.

There has been an issue with the self-update of Service Center through the past days, resulting in an endless loop of self-updates. We have located the problem and solved this.

So from now on the self-update should work for you.

For some of you a problem might remain with the Service Center installation, caused by the failed self update attempts of the past days. Those should remove their complete Service Center folder. Doing a search for further Service Center folders on your hard discs and delete them, in case it has been installed more than once, is also recommended.

Then download the Service Center installer from

    http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=freeupdates

and install. Start Service Center. It (i.e. Service Center v2.0.6) will do two further self-updates requiring Service Center to restart. After the second restart a very short self-update will be performed, but no restart required. Now Service Center is up and running.

the trick on OSX was deleting the folder /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Service Center

    Worked after that.

Still not working.....I did all the suggestions & still no change...endless loop...

"the trick on OSX was deleting the folder /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Service Center"

    did this! no change

""For some of you a problem might remain with the Service Center installation, caused by the failed self update attempts of the past days. Did all this, strictly to the letter....still nothing. Launched it, it updates then says RESTART SERVICE CENTRE...SERVICE CENTRE WAS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED & WILL RESTART NOW > OK.....click on OK & it takes me to my administrator page to type my password (as it does for any installs)....when i do this it goes back to the ""UPDATE SERVICE CENTRE...THIS MAY TAKE SOME TIME""...then it tells me RESTART SERVICE CENTRE...WAS SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED & WILL RESTART NOW >OK once again.....has done this several times....an endless loop.....

what the hell am I supposed to do? sit here looking at the screen telling me its going to restart? If so, how long does it take? If I click OK I just go back to the type my password admin page again & the loop continues ad nauseum/infinitum...

all this just so I can activate my massive expansion packs 1 & 2 onto my shiny new mac pro....or should I just not bother & use the packs originally installed on my old pc over LAN?

This really is insanity & is wasting my whole day!
    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
