Session Horns / Strings. How do I record a line using many articulations

I want to record or write a line using various articulations of the session horns. I tried using my DAW automation (Cubase) to change the articulations but that doesn't work. How do I do it? Do I just have the options of recording dead lines using performance mode and single articulations?? Can't be...

    Articulations.

    Hi

    If you're using Cubase

    For maximum flexibility.
You could create a Multi in Kontakt and load all of the Session Horns single articulations
Then create an Expression Map in Cubase to trigger all of the single articulations however you want. (I use notes C_0 - B_0)
It would have been helpful if this was available in Session Horns.

    However:

The closest you can have in Session Horns is to use a Performance.
This will give you up to 5 different articulations.

Playing a note at a normal velocity = Sustain
But there is the Velocity Switch option to trigger the following variations:
    FoPiCresc (swell) – Rip – Grace – Stacc – Marc - Shake
Holding the sustain pedal down is supposed to be Legato (or trigger phrase).
Pitch shift up = Doit Up
Pitch Shift Down is split in two – a little Pitch Bend = Fall Slow – max PB = Fall Fast.

I got round the limitations by creating my own instruments.
I copied the various groups into new blank instruments; Trp1, Trp2, Tbne and T-Sax.
Then created key-switches from C_0 – B_0 to trigger the variations in real time.
This – and using the Expression Map solution above for ensemble work – gives me the flexibility I wanted.

I think E-Instruments make some great instruments.
It would just be nice if they'd finish them off.

You have got to be kidding! Why couldn't NI just add one preset called "programming" that would allow all samples to be brought up based on velocity (or any other MIDI CC)?? It would save the major hassle (and skill) of creating your own multi - never mind it would take a fraction of the memory!!

No brainer... I'm very surprised - even my cheaper end Yamaha s950 arranger keyboard can do this (the brass samples are quite good with many articulations) which makes it a much better platform for programming brass...

Can anyone post a preprogrammed multi for cubase that would are me to program NI session horns using ALL articulations?

Which version of Cubase are you using?

    Several Ways of doing this:

Cubase with K5 using expression Maps

SHorns_Multi (C7) unzip this and you should see a C7 project and everything should work.

If not - this project wants to access the following:
SH-VST-Exp - which is the C7 expression map

    and
SHorns_Multi K5 - which is the K5 Multi that the expression map references.

Pressing Keys CO-B0 with the expression map activated will change the articulations on the fly.

    K5 Bank

Or you can use a Kontakt Bank and a Multi Script

SHorns_NI_BNK (C7) - this should just load a C7 project with everything good to go.
(As long as you have Session Horns activated on your system)

Or you'll need the following assets:

    SH-Multiscript K5 - this is the multiscript for K5

    SH-SA K5-BNK - this is the K5 Bank file

SH-SA (NI K5) - these are the individual instruments for the bank above - (you shouldn't need these).

This way - you don't need a Cubase expression Map
Instead: The Kontakt Multi Script does the same thing
Notes C0-B0 trigger the individual articulations in the Kontakt Bank.

I see this thread is 6 years old now. Have there been any simplifications for any of this? It looks great that I can choose from all these great articulations but strange that when recording I am stuck with only one of them. I would expect to press a keyswitch for one phrase and change it for the next one , if I do that then the first phrase also gets changed. Surely there is a simpler way than having to spend hours learning yet another way of doing something that should be simple ?

Is there a way to change the locations of the Keyswitches for session horns? Right now they are very far away from the keys that are used for the horns (very inconvenient and illogical). I've tried the KSP button and found where it looks like I can change them, but it doesn't work. There are two columns of keys , and I try to change C1 to C2 etc.. hit APPLY and nothing ever changes. Can someone tell what I'm doing wrong please?

If there isn't an option on the front panel then they probably don't want you to move them.
    Plenty of ways around it.
I map the drum pads of my nektar keyboard to them. Record an automation track, whatever suits your workfiow.

IIRC keys witches in Session Horns start at C-1, so you should change your wanted keys TO C-1 and onward.
