I need strings sounds just for playing keyboard, I need something good for symphonic metal, how good Session Strings Pro should be in that kind of context?
Bands like Nightwish, within temptation, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, etc...

Here two songs which are good exmples of the strings sounds I'm looking for:

Can I achive something similar with Session Strings Pro?

I have Komplete 11 Ultimate which includes "Symphony Strings Essentials" and "Action Strings." I'm sure I could play any of the strings tracks you posted using those two sample packages. Probably Essentials on it's own if you only wanted one.

Funny but now that you mention it I never loaded Session Strings. I probably should as I paid for it ha.

Michael F Cle, hey man, yeah, but those libraries aren't good for live performance.
And Session Strings Pro developed with the live player took in mind, and that's why I want it to fit to the genres I want to play as a keyboardist, in terms of sound.

It doesn't has to be exclusively great for that kind of stuff, just decent and playable.
And in Session Strings Pro 2 they added something that called Sound Presets, so the sound can be altered to many colors, hopefully some of the sound presets could do the trick for me.

But I really can't know without trying it myself, and without any testimony of other users...especially with the few short unclear demos of this library.

You need a Korg rompler for those strings. X5D (Dimmu), N364 (early era Nightwish) will do.

EvilDragon, I know, but I want to go with software rig, I want to find software alternative.
It doesn't has to sound exactly like thos Korg romplers, it has to fit to the context decently...

So your'e saying it won't work with Session Strings Pro 2?

SSP is more geared towards pop, R&B, Motown productions...

OK maybe I should let down the software rig idea and buy a Korg Kronos(or its successor hopefully emerge next year).
What do you say EvilDragon, will do the trick?

Because I can't find any strings VST with contamporary Rompler type of sound, playability, and veriaty of articulations.

Its ither those professional strings libraries(mostly cinematic style), or you get sounds of a keyboard from 30 years ago(Korg M1 for example), those are the only options in software keyboard rig strings.

With one exception of Omnisphere with great sounding rompler type strings, but you don't get any basic articulations you get in any rompler, even pizzicato strings is not exist in Omnisphere.

Michael F Clef, how you play them live?
With extensive use of modwheel\expression pedal?

As far as I know symphony strings doesn't respsonse to velocity...

Kronos might be a complete overkill (even though in later days Nightwish did use OASYS, but his live rig is mostly Korg TRs with sampled N364 and Oasys sounds in them, along with Korg Karma). :)

Omnisphere should be perfectly sufficient for this, and the point of those string/pad sounds is not for them to sound as realistic as possible, but to fit in the mix - so 30 years old samples is not a bad thing here, for a variety of reasons :) Those sounds aren't even about articulations (no true legato in any of those songs, unless it's been recorded with an orchestra!)

If you need pizzicato, Korg M1 plugin should absolutely suffice. Protip: layer it with harp sound! :)

EvilDragon, and what do you say about this song for example:

In the intro of the song there are staccato and spiccato strings sounds.
I've be told that the those sounds come from a Roland keyboard by the way.

Yeah WT is often found using Rolands... For this there's JV-1080 plugin in the Roland Cloud, something similar should be in there, along with SRX Orchestra version of JV-1080.

Yes a little mod wheel play but usually volume pedal is enough dynamic range. And a quick touch with left hand when changing from sustains to staccato pizzicoto tremolo etc. I'm on a budget and do what I can with soft synths. My brother has deeper pockets and a Kronos 88. No shortage of sounds in that baby!

Hey EvilDragon, how about this playing style:

These are more realistic samples, not like Korg M1 and Omnisphere, this is not exactly the playing style of the bands we mentioned in the begning of the discussion...

Do you think Session Strings Pro 2 is sufficient for this style? Can I achieve similar sounds with it?(SSP2 for strings and I'll layer it with other instruments from other libraries...).

I really want a VST that sounds and behaves like those Kapro libraries, and if I won't find one I'll just buy a Kronos(or its successor):D

Now THAT'S a Beautiful Sample! I hear some winds mixed with the strings. Maybe a hint of synth pad too.
