Sorry for the cryptic title, I couldn't think of anything better.

EDIT: Please see next post for attachment that demonstrates the problem.

I'm using kontakt 3.5 on PC. This is the problem:

I map some one-shot drum machine samples across a range of keys with different groups and voice groups for hi-hat, triangle etc. Everything plays as it should and I save the program with samples.

I close the instrument and open it again. Now, 3 samples of different pitched woodblocks play the same high woodblock sound. The muted triangle has the same high woodblock sample overlaid with it. I check the mapping and it looks correct.

Next, I go and check the wav samples themselves and find that the 3 woodblock samples all sound the same and that the muted triangle sample also has the high woodblock sample overlaid with it. It altered the samples themselves when saving.

I delete everything, start again and the same thing happens. I check some other drum machine patches I made yesterday and, yes, the same problem happened there to. Always with one of the very short samples overlaid with another sound.

I can go into more detail and try and make a repeatable demo of it, but I just wonder at this stage whether anyone else has had this problem.

    I thank thee.

I've attached 5 short samples in case anyone is kind enough to test this for me.
    View attachment test1.zip

Just create a new instrument and map the 5 sounds to one group. In case it makes a difference, for this test I mapped them as follows:

    woodblock high - C1
    woodblock med D1
    woodblock low E1
    triangle short F1
    triangle long G1

Save the instrument with samples. close the instrument and open it again, play the 5 keys and see what happens. I'd appreciate any feedback as to whether or not you get the same problem as I do.

    I thank thee.

Tonewill, thanks for your very very thorough troubleshooting of this.

I was able to repro this, and I consider this an absolutely very serious bug, and will report it to the Kontakt developers immediately.

    Thanks a lot David.
The problem does seem to be related to very short samples. I just added 1 second of silence to the end of all 3 woodblock samples and the problem went away. not ideal to have to do this of course but as a workaround.

    Thanks for your help,
    Barry.

Great, that is also very helpful information. It also helps explain why this hasn't manifested for more people. I will pass it on.

    Hi there,

I've just had a go at loading up your samples and mapping them as per your instructions. Sure enough I too get the same pitched woodblocks and merged woodblock/triangle samples when re-loading the instrument. Kontakt 3.5 definately alters the samples during the saving process. The only way around this is to add a second of silence onto the end of the samples or just to save the instrument as patch only.

Even if I map just 2 of the samples - 'woodblock low' and 'woodblock mid' they still play at one pitch when the instrument is reloaded due to the wav files being re-written incorrectly.

AND, what is noticeable is that K3.5 also changes the samples when saving the instrument as a Monolith file, not just as Patch & Samples.

I'm now wondering how many short drum samples I have in my library that I've overwritten and will sound incorrect upon their next playback. Let's hope this bug gets sorted for the next update.

Does anyone know whether this is fixed in K4?

I believe it is, but haven't verified it personally yet. I reported it as soon as you found it, and got an indication back that the problem was located, which usually means it was fixed.
