    Hello,

I just bought BANDSTAND. During installation, i was asked if I wanted to associate the program with the windows file typ 'mid'.

If I double-click on any *.mid file now, BANDSTAND is started (fine..) but the midi file is not loaded. I still have to search it in the file open dialog of the BANDSTAND midi player.

Is this normal? I would have expected BANDSTAND to load (and maybe even start) the file automatically.

    Bye,
    Ruediger

    Hi Ruediger,
Yes, they should play. When I load Bandstand in stand alone mode and click on a .MID file Bandstand plays it fine. Have you tried some other midi files?

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, it's the same for all files that I have tried. If I load them via the file open dialog, the play fine.

Does anybody else have this problem too (or a solution for it)?

    My PC has
    INTEL DualCore
Windows XP Home with actual updates

    Bye,

Markus is the Product Manager for Bandstand, so hopefully he'll drop by soon and help you.

I just installed Bandstand 1.0.1 on a Mac dual G5 and it goes through the motions of loading a MIDI file, one that loads or plays in other programs, but when I click the Play button it says there is no MIDI file loaded. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I just reinstalled Bandstand and the update CD, and no difference. It "pretends" to load the MIDI file through the dialog, but when I click Play it still says there's no MIDI file loaded. I can't add anything to the playlists, either.

    I feel your frustration!
I'm sure Markus the Product Manager can help; he used to respond daily on this forum but alas now seems off doing other things. It looks like Bandstand is going to become another Hypersonic 2, i.e. launched, supported for a while and then allowed to die quietly with no prospect of upgrades or bug fixes. :S

I think there is a need for further bugfixes. Besides the "Open with" bug (which i can work around), i often have to restart bandstand to make it work again.:(

I experience the same issue: when double clicking on a midi file, Bandstand opens, but nothing loads ........

Confirmed: on my iMac running X.4.8, 2-clicking a midi file launches BandStand but the [open document] Apple event that should trigger the loading proper is lost in the process; yet, now that BS is up, 2-clicking on any midi file loads it and plays it as expected: the very first A.E. is the only one that BandStand doesn't catch properly.

On windows XP, the next double click on a midi file opens another instance of BANDSTAND. But this one is not loading the midi file either.

By the way, is anybody able to use the knowledge base? If I search in the knowledge base, there is nothing found at all.

Thank goodness ... someone else has this same problem! (though I wouldn't wish it on you).

I've complained to both the local distributor and to Tech Support about this problem weeks ago: but no one could duplicate it. I can play midi through the plug-in but NOT as a stand alone.

I click the little icon, find the midi file (tried dozens, including ones formatted on other machines and with other applications) and I get ... well ... um ... nothing.

    Not once, ever.

Please NI, can you try to find out what's wrong here. Otherwise it's just another plug-in.

Karl, Is it perhaps just a problem with the Mac version? I use a PC and all midi files play fine. I don't know if they'll open on a double click because I've got things configured so that Sonar opens when I double click. Perhaps the poster who started this thread also has a Mac?

    No, i have (see above)
    INTEL DualCore
Windows XP Home with actual updates

NI support just gave me the advice to open MIDI files via the playlist, i.e. they admit that there is a problem.:(

They have also told me that there are no plans for further updates because BANDSTAND development has been stopped!

Aha - the truth at last...

I wondered why Markus wasn't around anymore. He's been re-assigned to another project. I wish software companies were more honest - NI are still selling Bandstand and Steinberg are still selling Hypersonic2 both of which are dead ducks. Well, once bitten, twice shy that's all I can say.

    You are kidding me!

    Development stopped?

Then I want my money back! This product does NOT do what it is advertised to do. I cannot use it to play midi files in the standalone mode (no matter how you access the files) -- it is a complete crock!

Not what I expected from NI

    Hi all,

okay finally a comment from my side!

unfortunately, I have to confirm your observations below. I remember that we registered MIDI files with one of the last Bandstand installers. however, I cannot get the MIDI files to load - neither by double-clicking nor by dropping on the Bandstand icon nor by dropping on the Bandstand interface.

I am having this entered in the bug database!

    best,
    Markus

You are not alone. I have the problem as well

Running WinXP Pro, service pack 2, completely up-to-date as of 4/21/07

Running Bandstand 1.0.2.006, which I think is the latest.

Double clicking on a midi file (either local on hard disk, or via a web browser on the internet) brings up Bandstand but doesn't load the MIDI file.

Double clicking again brings up a second copy of Bandstand, and still doesn't load the file.

The only way to load the file is via Bandstand's "Player" box, and that is a royal pain. I've got Komplete 4 and Kore, and I bought this to 'make it easy' to just play MIDI files without having to go to all the trouble to set things up in Komplete. And now it doesn't work. Please fix this ASAP Native Instruments.

    Thanks
