Should Guitar rig be changing the sound even without any effects loaded?

    Hi,

Just bought Komplete. Really enjoying it though.

Trying to use Guitar rig on a drum bus to introduce some breakdown fx. But as soon as I load an instance on the bus channel, the sound changes before I have even loaded any particular effects. It becomes thinner, weaker, and doesn't sound as good.

When I click bypass (in Logic), I get back to the original, clean sound.

Surely without effects loaded, the sound should be 100% the same as when guitar rig is bypassed?

    Am I missing something here?

    THANKS for bringing this up!

I too have noticed this in a completely different DAW. I will follow this thread for possible info...

Also noticed by using Kontakt standalone = fat sounds

Then loaded Kontakt instrument inside the DAW = fat sound
Then added guitar rig as an Audio Insert = thinner sound (before even making a selection in Guitar Rig)

My workaround was to load an effect and tweak the sound back to what I wanted to hear.

Make sure the guitar rig input is stereo if the audio feeding into it is stereo.

So does this mean it cleared up when you selected stereo or you are just grateful for the suggestion?

Yes - his information was right on target !

Somehow my guitar right was defaulting to single channel.

I looked and noticed L/R were not both illuminated - so I simply clicked both and the sound was fat again !

NICE TIP - for something easily overlooked (since I did not remember toggling it off - I did not bother to look there)!

I'm not sure which is the default setting - obviously guitars and basses output a mono signal anyway...

    Factory default is Mono input.

To change this, go to Options > Preferences:

Save global Header Setup as Plugin default > Save

On a Mac at least it is labeled Default Plugin Input Configuration and is accessed through the Guitar Rig interface Options > Preferences as opposed to the File > Preferences accessed through the top menu bar of the operating system which only sets MIDI and audio input/output routing and drivers.
