Here are a few very serious composing aids N.I. should seriously add to Maschine 2.7-or beyond.

    1) SHOW PRIME NOTES. Use different colors or brightnesses on pads, when in keyboard mode, to show off the notes which are in the designated key/scale of the piece at the timeline area...

^^^ Above is C major, with a root note at C on the lower left square (as usual). The brighter notes (or a different color) are the notes in the scale of C major. Easy peezy to see and grasp. No guessing or fumbling for those of us who can't navigate the squares as quick as the seasoned pros.

    2) SHOW THE BLACK AND WHITE KEYS. (Same image as above). In this mode, you show the different keys of the keyboards with different colors or brightnesses. Regardless of the scale, this triggered option merely sets up a keyboard-esque option for the composer.

    3) SHOW THE ROOT NOTE! Use a different color for the root note of a designated key signature or scale being used at a certain point along the timeline. Below is a picture of the C major with green C notes...

This root-note display can be added on or left behind from the other configurations.
Here is an image of E-flat Major, for example...

    4) Put an optional-view "tape" atop the time line which allows the composer to notate the key (at any beat) that the song changes into. That designation can also change these parameters when opening keyboard mode for instruments to play.

Think of it like the tapes at the top of the time line that designate beats or parts of songs, etc.

    5) Allow notes to be flagged along the timeline at top, for typed notes that might say something like "Must remix with better compression", or "This sucks... elongate it and add a bongo", etc.

That way it is easier to keep track of ideas and needs without the use of a physical notebook.

    THANKS FOR CONSIDERING THESE!

Initially I thought this looked like the Mk1. If it is then these changes are possibly and would be welcomed. Your pic shows a 'green' pad but no other colours, which must mean it could be a Mk2, or photoshop..

This left me wondering is there a way to upgrade the Mk1?

If this were a first generation computer, there would be loads of third party hobbyists offering upgrades to the hardware. The Maschine community doesn't seem to be as industrious. Sure there are 'skins' and replacement 'knobs', which i've bought, but actual upgrades, piggy-back boards, upgrades to the leds, new pads etc, seem to be none existent. These might require the approval/assistance of NI, with the official specs on this old hardware.

Sorry--it is photoshopped Mark I, because I couldn't find a good pic of a Mark II (which I own).

It's just for a pictorial demonstration... not accurate.
