So I am wondering what would be the best way to work sidechaining into my workflow with the maschine and ableton.

Do I need to create a separate instance of maschine for the kick, snare, etc when i want to use these in a sidechain?

Anyone out there have a easier way then creating separate instances or just recording the individual parts

I wouldn't think you would need to actually create a separate instance (although that would work, too)... You could just route your kick, etc. to its own track in Ableton, then use that track to drive the sidechain on your compressor, gate, or whatever....

A couple tips, however: For one thing, it seems like you can only route to a stereo pair, and then those seem to be numbered differently between Maschine and Live because of that, so take that into consideration when setting up your Inputs and stuff. Also, if you do make extra tracks in Ableton to receive audio from Maschine, and you use Live 8, you may want to consider then making them a Group Track, to keep your Live set nice and tidy.

As it turns out, this isn't really a bad way of working, as isolating some of your parts or groups gives you more control over what's coming from Maschine, which is important since Maschine is so isolated in terms of MIDI, which would be far more efficient to achieve the same result.

Anyway, hope this helps and I also wanted to say "thanks", as well, because in double checking what I was telling you here, I came up with a nice sound in Ableton using a sidechained Gate over an Operator string sound, lol.

Hmm can you tell me where I can find some information on how to do that? Does it have to be done by group or can I just route the kick from the group to one channel and the snare to another...etc

    Lol..cool Joshua Lee

you can route a Group or a Sound to one of 8 External Outputs.

please Read the Chapters about Sounds and Groups in your Reference Manual especially pages 58 and 67.

I read it I guess I am a little confused, so I took the kick and have the destination out to ext out 1, I just cant tell now where to find that output in ableton, it only gives me the option of the channel maschine is on not the individual parts?

OK so I just figured this out, I basically have to create another channel in ableton and have it monitor in from the ext out of the maschine..only issue is now I am losing the fx I have on that sound in the maschine I assume since its bypassing the maschine, how can I route the part including the fx from the maschine for that part

if a Sound has fx on it, then the fx will be routed to the Ext Output, same thing for a Group.
