So I spend painstaking time putting all the knobs and switches in their right places in the instrument view, but the ensemble view is a mess. Surely there is some way to "import" or preserve the exact layout of the instrument in the ensemble's panel, without redesigning the exact same thing twice...
any help would be much appreciated.

I totally agree - and there is no way.

Also - there really should be some easier way to control whether things are visible - i.e. buttons on the structure icons - or ability to modify multiple things with the properties.

I never use the ensemble view because a) this problem, and b) because once you have a large ensemble it constantly drops out my system whenever i move the window or scroll it.

I cant wait to check out the new rack feature - one I personally had wished for. - hopefully it will scroll without windows invoking its (pain in the arse) interupts and solve all these problems.

At the moment - i just have the main structure view in the background and double click instruments to load them up - this way you dont get any dropouts and it keeps things simple.

    there is a way...

and it is very simple: when youve finished your layout in the instrument view, simply click on the "general" tab in the instruments properties and uncheck the "controls visible in ensemble" box. all knobs will dissapear in the ensemble panel view. then check this box again, and voila: everything should be on the right place now. (all panel modules will be "visible in ensemble" now, so when you used some invisible panel modules, you may have to turn them invisible again manually. uncomfortable - but better than redesigning the whole panel a second time...)

    thanks for sayin thank you...

i love that. so there is another piece of information that might be valuable too (in this context):

when you did as described above, you might recognize, that all controls are not "really" in the right place after re-checking the "visible" box. for example, when you use more than one instrument in an ensemble and want to switch them visible/unvisible when needed, the whole instrument may not appear on the right place in the ensemble view. to fix this problem, you will have to open the instruments panel, select and move all controls together and move them the right amount (you have to guess...). when you do the process described above (check, then uncheck "controls visible in ensemble"), the whole instrument will appear on a different place. in this way you can do some tricky kind of multi layer ensemble view. when you dont know what i want to tell you, go to this page and download the last ensemble (wds_v03_org303.zip). the ensemble structure (!) view is opened there too, click on any instrument and check/uncheck the visibility box and you will see.

in r4 this is no longer necessary (ithink), but maybe it helps while waiting (and shows that reaktor is endless and youll never learn everything)....
