Well good for you. But you can't just dismiss mimicking other people, because (as can be seen in the example i made in my last post) it promotes music evolution.

Yes, he's obviously very successful so is obviously doing something right.

I'd like to hear a guitarist who actually never mimicked anyone. This person can't be able to even struck the simplest chord.
When you're learning an instrument or making music, its ALL about "copying", or better, repeating what other's did before.

nobody is going to be able to do what skrillex/deadmau5 has done better them themselves.. thats the point i'm trying to make - i'm not discounting their success... they changed the entire industry and produced legions of mindless clucks like you guys trying to copy them. OVER AND OUT.

go make a progressive house beat right now that sounds better than deadmau5 but sort of like him but better.. and get successful.. I will bet 10,000 anyone who hears it is going to say "this sounds like deadmau5. meh."

It's not about sounding like them, its about learning how they get where they are. And from that point, you can evolve. Maybe you stumble about something no living person has ever heard before, and get successfull with it.
On guitar, you first learn to play classic folk picking patterns, and then you start to create your own unique patterns featuring your own inspiration

Of course, and as you started music making without ever having listened to anyone else's music before, you're completely free of any influences.
Your music is an epiphany, 'cause it's totally different to anyone else and is in no way related to any music known to mankind. You're the worlds one and only REAL artist.
