it's very sad, and actually it's quite older, if you consider this is part of a shout out loud asking for browser improvements, collection management assistance and workflow, which may go as far as the release of traktor pro (1) around 2008.

however, i recently reviewed my post history and it made me realize that, some other stuff that has been pointed out by members of this forum, has been addressed in a timely frame. but it's almost always the same, these improvements are done silently, some of them not even mentioned in the release notes. and it is frustrating seeing some details are ironed out, while other important stuff is left behind, silently as well.

as i've said many, many times already, traktor is a fabulous piece of engineering, i love playiing with it, but there are some things you are forced to swallow that simply take out all the fun, when you notice that due to its inefficiency to sort out the "back office" and keep it tidy, you're wasting much more time than it should require.

PS: reading what i wrote years ago i seemed a whiny AH to myself :'D

Nah ya not. Traktor should have Smart Playlists - end of argument.
The fact that iTunes already does it and does it very well was ok for a few years but now that iTunes is a bloated music player it's has been long essential that Traktor is capable of doing all that we need without using iTunes.

Personally, I use iTunes as I don't particularly like having all my eggs in one basket but, Smart Playlists in Traktor would serve as double protection for certain playlists I need as well as easy access without having to tab back to iTunes (because I do not like using the iTunes Browser with Traktor) and also I could have practical Traktor based Smart lists that I don't necessarily need to keep for ever as I do with my iTunes playlists.

Let's just hope that something will come with the next gen of Traktor... and no I'm not still banging in the door with this request. If it comes it comes.
The fact that this thread is still live is testament to the legitimacy of the request.

(apologies for the hurried reply, hope it makes sense - world cup semi final is on soon;-)

    Karlos (ever hopeful).

it's a pity to see that you have, somehow, stopped banging the door, as you say... you were a key ally!
well, hope is the last thing one might lose, they say... ;)
    cheers

I signed up here just to add my +1

Previously I'd purely used Traktor to sort my music which ended badly when I destroyed my nml file.
Resorting was taking too long so I thought of using the iTunes node instead, smacking my forehead that I hadn't thought of sorting with Smart Playlists in iTunes before.
Spent days on it but finally had everything where I wanted. Then noticed that the iTunes node doesn't display all the info. Bummer.

Ever since then I've manually updated my Traktor playlists from the iTunes node. Better than purely sorting in Traktor but not ideal.

So yea, +1 on smart playlists in Traktor.

+1 , + can We have at least some easy stuff & quick wins :
1/ grouping Field visible on Traktor (like in Itunes) : cannot understand why it is not available yet.
2/ same display system with navigation by columns (where you can choose which fields will be part of the 5 columns you can pick up)

    Thanks a lot

+1 to re-adding the feature of playlists imported from iTunes to Traktor having an auto-update feature. I'm shocked and frustrated every day the Traktor doesn't already do this. I'm so tried of having to delete the playlist and then re-import it, possibly move it and then re-analyze the tracks. Takes way too much time and would be an easy thig to fix in the software.

it shouldn't be necessary to re analyze, but you have to either check consistency for those tracks, or close and open the app in order to see traktor's info for the tracks in the re-imported playlist.

when doing this, sometimes you may find problems that ultimately require to re-analyze.

you talk about an ideal situation where everything works as it should. which may or may not be the actual situation going on for some people (at least for me, it currently doesn't). i'll list here two "simple" examples of stuff you may see when adding tracks from itunes, **which already were in your track collection**

    - tracks which traktor's decimal bpm is overwritten by the rounded value.
    - tracks where mixed in key initial key value appears to be overwritten by traktor's value.

it all just points out once again that there are flaws in the browser and media management areas within traktor, and still have not been adressed.

+1 especially since Smart Playlists includes BOOLEAN search capabilities

please make Smart Playlists NATIVE to Traktor Pro (using iTunes with Traktor, ugh)

    (my sig is way outdated...

Tons of great feature suggestions...but sadly.. have you ever seen any of them implemented? I starting to think the feature suggestion tread is purely a waste.

i tend to think as you do, mainly because the (often very long) time it takes to see any request actually implemented. but indeed some of the requests have been implemented over time. for example, key analysis integration and HID for some CDJ's. even though, as stated earlier in this thread, it took so long.

this gives the feeling that no one gives a sh*t about what it's being requested and discussed around here. but from time to time, we get some surprises. it appears that, usually, NI doesn't implement stuff exactly as it has been requested. they make their interpretation of the necessity and provide what they think it's a solution. at least, that's how i interpret the recent improvements in the itunes node in version 2.7. it's not smart playlists of course, but it's a step forward towards improving the way users can interact with their itunes collection, in a fairly more transparent way, by ironing out many of the inconsistencies it has had for, well, too many years.

still, this forum (not just the feature request, but the technical and general forum as well), could be way, way more useful for us, and for them, if some things were taken seriously... information is badly scattered and the efforts to contain this are probably huge. some organization tools wouldn't hurt anybody:

    - tagging threads, so users have it easier to find threads they may be interested in. would avoid duplicated and triplicated posts for the same issue and would help keep information properly grouped.

    - voting system for requests, to gauge how many users are interested in a given feature.

    - voting system for solutions proposed to technical issues ("this helped me" button, most voted solution appears right below the OP). together with a proper tagging system, would help people find if their issue has a quick solution and which one is it. it would, somehow, end up merging knowledge base with the technical forum.

the next one is just my impression and i may be wrong, but i get the impression that moderators efforts are, not wasted, but poorly invested. they are constantly replying to the same questions over and over, and even though their participation is necessary and something to be really thankful for, i'd like to see them, feeling somehow even more useful, able to be even more in touch with users, i mean, in the sense of being able to act as a link between support/development and this community, further than they currently do/can/are allowed to. i'm not trying to talk in their behalf whatsoever, just posting what i sense after years around here.

but all this should go hand in hand with a change in NI's current policy about information, which is 95% secrecy. i may understand secrecy for future plans and developments, but deliberately not participating (with some exceptions) in the forums, and deliberately not replying to their customers concerns channeled through the moderators of this forum -has happened in this thread- makes no sense, and is clearly not showing commitment.

    PS: +1 to smart playlists!!!

    @Karlos Santos

now that i have your attention, i recently saw a poll on the header of a thread, asking votes to whether the user was having that issue or not. was it just a test or are there improvements in sight in this sense in the forum? this would also help gauging which are the "hot issues" and somehow help driving the investigation efforts, if it was done (and managed, sorry for throwing more work to your desk :)) properly.

i don't think people in these forums is not willing to participate, help investigating, testing, etc. it's usually the opposite. but they (we) have to see efforts get to something, or people gets burned.

@NReek ; I didn't see that - do you have a link. Was it a user made poll in a post.
The forum does not currently have a poll function, certainly not one that can be implemented by a user or a Moderator. Only forum admin has the rights to implement a forum poll.

i don't have a link, but i made a screenshot, i have it at home. i'll forward it to you this afternoon. IIRC, it was a thread about one of the issues discussed right after the 2.7.0 release, might probably be in the technical issues sub-forum.

Heh, funny that. One of the points someone here recently disputed... so it's not only me having that impression.
I can't say it enough - I'd really wish for more transparency & communcation with the customers and a 'less closed ecosystem'. Funny that exactly this was the reason I gave up Serato & switched to Tractor who were much more open & customizable in 2010. How times change.

As for smart playlists - I'm not very familiar with the iTunes world as I find it rather horrible if a program/algorithm auto-edits my data, but that's just me. What was mentioned in this thread before which I whole heartedly agree with - we need better playlist management tools in Traktor. One gripe that's haunting me is multi m3u playlist export. I have no faith in the nml file export... I prefer to work with ascii m3u, yet, I can only export a single one at a time making this a sisyphean task.
