Smart Playlists in Traktor: WHEN?

RekordBox 6 just came out and has some pretty compelling features. But, Pioneer also closed it down by whacking the RekordBox.xml import / export feature. I had been using RekordBuddy to sync playlists & cues between Traktor & Rekordbox when I’ve gotta go show up to CDJs with a USB stick. But with RB 6 that goes away. (So, don’t upgrade RB.)

Though this has nothing to do with smart playlists, it’s just more evidence that NO DJ software vendor is perfect. It always comes down to what trade offs to make.

For as long as I can remember, NI has not driven new feature development based on input from customers here in the Forum. We are here for each other; NI is rarely here for us. From the outside, new features appear more driven by what ideas Product Managers come up with on their own than what we cry for here. (To the extent they do *any* new stuff for Traktor, which is by far not the most rapid-advancing software I own...).

You may be a developer, so you can realize the software is so badly written, everything is coupled with so much legacy code, it is very hard to change anything. The entire application looks like one big monolith, this is why it's so hard for them to replace the browser. NI knows that browser sucks, but basically I don't think they can do anything about it, except they rewrite the whole application.. But this will take a lot of time.

 

They have already rewritten it in the form of traktor dj2, it just needs a few more features adding but it feels like only homer simpson is working on it part time every other sunday.

i mean what is the hold up??? At this rate itll be another 10 years.

ive tryed to get off this ship many times but i always come back, how ever im now trying serato with a ddjz at home and i have to say its everything traktor isnt. The GUI is a tuff pill to swallow and the grids need a little more work.

But it does have smart playlists and a streaming platform and so much more.......................

i regret putting so much time into traktor. After i started on scratch live i wish i went onto serato dj all those years ago, im starting to despise traktor and the way its progressed and now holding me back in terms of hardware and features.

I’m in the same boat, I upgraded to Denon sc5000 and traktor still hasn’t provided the H.I.D Support so I made the move to serato Tractor Dj2 looks good but if your not planning on getting a traktor controller it’s pointless.

just check when the thread has started I guess it will never happen, it looks like the software is so badly written (coupled, etc) and they cant extract the browser as a separate module, or rewrite just the browser, in order to implement this feature.
In fact, if it's so badly written, it is really a miracle that it works (without too many issues)..

also the updates are so $#*#@$ rare with Traktor.. i'm also considering change, wonder recordbox or serato will fit more. the only reason I didnt change up until now, is I have to redo all my library, cue points, loops, etc.

 

It’s not that bad you can export your playlist to serato and go from there

I think Traktor has made really good progress, FX effects, design etc. Smart playlists and flexible beat grids are still on my wish list. As a replacement for the Smart List I use Itunes in tractor - not optimal but better than nothing

 

after trying serato and then rekord again ive left traktor for rekordbox for good, there aint no looking back now im afraid as the analysis seems almost as good and the hardware is just a pleasure to play on. what a shame eh **** company really

 

I am finally fed up with NI and uninstalled Traktor AND iTunes (I oinly had installed to have intelligent playlists) today. It is unbelievable they didn't manage to get ANY decent playlist management programmed in 14 YEARS. That is most disguisting and should shame everyone working on it.

It took a while but it's finally there. Now I really need to start tagging.

A tag pane where we can set personal tags would be the cherry on the cake for me.
Tagging on the fly while mixing would be a huge time saver.

I'm not willing to check the beta yet (I don't update unless I must!), but I'd really love to be able to see what we've got in the current Smart Plaiylist implementation.

Could one of the Beta testers post a few screen grabs, showing al of the drop down options for each field? Please?

 

You can install the beta and trivialy go back to your current version.
the "backup" folder has copies of all your previous traktor versions

 

After the sucess of the smart playlists thread, maybe a similar named thread for elastic beatgrids would be sucessfull as well
