I am SO SO happy that we’re getting this!!!

I’m yet to try it out - but I will when I get home.

Can anyone tell me, is there anything that can be done in iTunes that CANNOT be done in Traktor? I realise this is not the final release, but, could NI confirm if the intention is to duplicate iTunes functionality, and ADD some Traktor specific features?

Can Traktor handle nested Smart Playlists? (Condition: Playlist is; Playlist is not;)

It would be nice to have a separate operator for Year (apart from release date), since iTunes/Music uses this field instead of the Release Date field. Therefore, those users have the release date automatically set to XXXX/01/01, and it "complicates" the use of this field.

I was creating a smartlist while importing some new tracks, and I've thought of a feature which could turn out to be very useful. The idea is the following:
Add a category which is called "Grid", and that let's you chose between tracks that have the Grid Locked /Unlocked. This shouldn't be difficult to implement since there's the icon for Tracks with the Grid Locked already...
As a bonus feature, it could also be useful to smart filter tracks that have 2+ GridMarker / don't have any GridMarker.
Like this one could easily have a playlist with all tracks he needs to "work on", another one with those which don't have any GridMarker (and might need to be analysed), etc.

For example, could help DJ's to lock those "tracks" which they might have already beatgridded correctly (with 2+ grid markers set) but, for whatever reason, they don't have them "locked".

^This is MASSIVE. An absolute MUST have option for Smart Playlists.

Something as simple as TRAKTOR4 is TRUE.

This would essentially split your Collection into 2 lists - Tracks that have been prepared, and tracks that haven't.

This goes back to what I mentioned before for "nested" playlists. I'd LOVE for my Smart Playlists to be filterable on whether or not tracks have been properly gridded/cued/loops, etc, or not.

I usually use a tag for this where I write "+" or "ready" for example, or if a color is marked in a track, it means that I have processed this track, and you can always see which tracks are ready and which are not

Loving the smartlists so far, great job NI.

Feature I would love to have is the ability to exclude other playlists and smart lists. Two use cases for me would be let's say I've created rules for a House playlist and a Techno playlist off of tags and tempo, it would be useful to see what slipped through the cracks with a "124-132 BPM, Not in HOUSE or TECHNO playlist" filter.

The other huge boon of smartlists for me is purging tracks, setting an import date, play count and last played filter I can quickly see what tracks have gone forgotten. Since I keep two computers prepared, I like to put "Tracks to Delete" in a manual playlist and remove them all at once. It would be super helpful to run a smartlist ruleset that I could exclude any tracks already in the "Delete" folder.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Good Day Traktorists. I trust all is well. I have just updated to the most recent Beta Version 3.4.0.202 today.

I'm very much new to the whole "Rule Setting" of Smart Playlists & would appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to upload a tutorial on how to get started using the new feature available. I have however downloaded some other videos to kind of get an idea of how this works( Serato Crates, Itunes Smart Playlist) JUST to get familiar with this.

Soooo next is what i have encountered after just an hour watching those videos & playing around.

My Biggest Concern so far is that this feature seems to be a bit resource hungry(cpu spikes a bit & power usage jumps from Moderate to Very High) when selecting another smartlist, slight delay also when selecting a smartlist & the waveform is very very lagging. However my load meter seems to be stable with the meter full on the letter "L" & slightly touching the "O" letter.

I have created 1 folder with smartlists containing my sub folders with music in them. I tried to drag & drop the sub folders into the playlists as i would do normally, but it refused, then I checked out the rules & tested "File Path/Contains/xxxxx" & that works, it does not seem to auto-update that smartlist as how i would assume it should(i just moved a track out the folder & added it to its correct folder & copied another random file, paste it into the folder i a testing). What i picked up that it does update What Has Been Removed/Deleted, but not adding new content, maybe i am not doing the rule sets correctly.

Would be highly appreciated if this gets looked into, specifically the concern regarding the lag / delay of the smartlists & waveform.

Also a video would be much appreciated to assist & get me set onto the correct path. I have been wanting this type of feature since i bought Traktor Pro & now its here.

I included a picture of what my folder structure looks like.

Many thanks for the assistance & continue thw amazing work NI.... Stay #CovidSafe Fellow Djs.

    Hi guys,
This is a great news that finally we'll enjoy such an important feature in Traktor. Hopefully soon it will appear in the updates :)
    I have some suggestions:

    1. Add rule operator that is Equals Any Of The Following. I would like to set rule that I want a Genre to be any of the following: Oldschool or RnB or RAP for example. So if you set operator to be Equals_Any_Of then you give availability to enter values separated by / or ; whatever and the rule filters like this. If song has this attribute (genre) to be equal to one of the things in the ; separated list, then it passes. It acts like OR but on a row level, so it's in a comma () in the bigger condition from all rules. This I personally will use like: make a playlist with all songs that are colored green or yellow or magenta. I can't use it with 3 rows with 3 rules separated with OR, because I want all my other conditions to be added with AND :) Actually I can't think a case where the checkbox Match all conditions won't be pressed in my smart lists.

    2. Add condition Within Mastertempo. I want a smart list with next song suggestions :) For example next song should have tempo withing 10% of the current BPM.

    3. On 3rd column, add values that are relative to the current song. Like: bpm, key, genre. For example I want to find songs, that are the same genre as the current song, withing 10% of its BPM, and keys to be matchable (+-1 on on the wheel).

And because this is a browser update also, I want to mention something very important. Currently in traktor it is very hard to see what songs are played in the current session (this icon is so small, and the same color as the entire row). That's why actually I think a better solution would be to add a global button to HIDE PLAYED TRACKS. But if not possible, at least do any of the following:
    1. Increase size of played-icon and change its color. Actually change the colors of all icons (beatgrid locked, played, etc) to be visible, now it's almost useless, while we work we don't watch the monitor from a close distance.
    2. Change the color of the entire row for played songs - like grayed out or something. This will also make it easy to browse a huge playlist and find out next song, that you are sure it's not played yet.

Great work and hopefully this ideas will get implemented as well. I thought we won't ever see update like this and glad to see it, it will bring people's faith in Traktor back again as an up to date with other software product again.

Flex, great suggestions, especially, I fully support point 4, I constantly use multiple criteria per line for tags: color, comment and mix, so I'm also waiting for the rule and/or on a row level, by the way, I saw another DJ who wrote about this.

Some awesome suggestions in the this thread! It's clear that we've got a good bunch of guys here that take Collection/Library Management VERY seriously.

The Playcount condition, as well as any other Traktor ONLY info (like Last Played, etc...) must be available in Traktors SPL's.

As long a we DO get the proper iTunes SPL integration (as indicated by NI in another thread), then we'll need Traktor to "fill the gaps" in what is and is not "SPL'able" in iTunes.

There are a MILLION uses where Match all WON'T be pressed. Especially when we get Nested Playlists. For your won use case, you'd have a playlist called "Oldschool, RnB & Rap". Conditions in that would be Genre is Oldschool, Genre is RnB, Genre is Rap, AND Match All WON'T be checked. That playlist will bring back all tracks in those Genres.

Then, you'd have a SECOND playlist, with the conditions:

Playlist is "Oldschool, RnB & Rap"
    Tempo is "95 - 100BPM"

In truth, though, as long as Traktor SPL's mirror iTunes SPL's, all of that can be done in ONE SPL.

Without trying to patronize anyone in this thread, is everyone here familiar with iTunes Smart Playlists? As far as I'm concerned, Traktor SPL's just need to mirror iTunes SPL functionality EXACTLY, but make Traktor ONLY information (Playcount, Last Played, Gridded, etc..) selectable as conditions.

For example, I don’t want to use ITunes for the library, I only buy tracks there, I also don’t like the ITunes sound, it is tinted artificially with an equalizer in a high spectrum, which just doesn’t sound natural

I don’t use iTunes for ANYTHING. Certainly not buying tunes.

I only use it for library management, and Smart Playlists.

If Traktor can implement Smart Playlists as well as iTunes, then I’ll have no need for iTunes anymore...

I know this is just wishful thinking, but, if there was a way to export SPL definitions only from iTunes, and have them re-built in Traktor...

    Like I said, wishful thinking.

Exactly no need for iTunes if you have smart playlists. I read carefully your post. Basically I agree there could be cases that you want all rows to go with OR condition, but most of the things that I imagine is something like this:

songs (in genres=[genre1,genre 2 or genre 3]) and (rating>3) and (bpm between 70-100) and (colors=[blue or green])

I am a software developer as well as DJ, and I can tell this kinda stuff is much easier to implement than nested playlists. NI already did the main part, I'm sure they will extend it and make it one of the best.

And I also agree, that library management is one of the most important stuff for a DJ. This was one of the reasons, I was considering to switch to Recordbox. Now I just hope for a release to be soon :)

    :) Agreed.

As long as a playlist can be made up of multiple OR and AND conditions, the world is our oyster...
