This is probably a very noobish question, but I don't really understand what the quant button does. Reading a few threads on the forum it seems to do the same thing as the Snap button.

Make an experiment. Beatgridd a track and set 8 cuepoints. Then press SNAP and play the track jumping from one cuepoint to another. Then press QUANT and jump again from cuepoin to cuepoint. You must hear the difference in the music playing.

hello, i tried that example...but the result is the same :-/

i stored 4 cue point and jump another to another

the result from snap to quantize is the same

    so, what's the difference ?

p.s. i tried better..and the result is little different: when quantized is activated the jump is...mm...in which way i can tell it....is... sync ?

    is this the real difference?

    thanks

jump from cue point to cue point a little bit off-time, then you see what quant does.
ideally with another track running synced in the other deck.

I can hear the difference, but I can't really see the practical application of having both when it seems that quant is more accurate.

im assuming snap is more for locking loops to the grid other than the track when you activate it. as well as setting cue points properly.

with snap turned on you exactly start at a cue point, e.g. to push into a track vocal sample. it doesnt matter if it's slightly out of sync, but it should start at the beginning, like:

    rock, rock, rock your body.

with quant on, the result could be like:
    ock, ck, ock your body

depending on how exact you hit the cue point.
so this would be more good to groove in another beat from a certain cue point. you wouldnt need to click sync again b/c it would be already beat and phase synced.

if you want to do somethig like drum "rolling" you can't with quant active, quant can do only a 1/4 beat, misures as 1/16 1/32 1/64 can't be "quantized", as the need to have quant and snap! ;)
