I was really bummed when I found out Snapshot was taken out. This was one of the reasons I was convinced it would be awesome. :(

Are there plans to bring it back?

    ahh, my friend the Snapshot

It's been an awfully long time since I've been back here on the forum. I had a few minutes to kill and just for giggles, came back here to see what's new.

My back-history is that I purchased GR3 w/Rig Kontrol 3 a few year ago. Really gave this setup a good go, and really REALLY liked the Snapshot feature in GR3. When GR4 was announced and released, I was very unhappy about the loss of Snapshots. What further pissed me off was that I PAID for the upgrade to GR4 based on print/internet advertising that still included the term "SNAPSHOT" in the GR4 product description. Then there was quite a lengthy "whine and cheese" session that ensued on this forum about if and when the Snapshot feature would return. Forum moderator(s) at the time said that "it was a high priority", and that they were working on it..yadda yadda yadda.

And so it never happened. And so I wholesale ditched NI and Guitar Rig when it became abundantly apparent that NI had no intention of re-instating Snapshots in future iterations of Guitar Rig. No, this is not a happy story, and I am not happy to tell the story, nor am I happy with the result.

So I've moved on (and you can easily find out where I've gone to if you so desire) and haven't looked back. I am a huge proponent of the "direction" that Guitar Rig represents in terms of computer based modeling technology, and open-ended virtual rig creation. The BEST idea ever IMO. Unfortunately, it is the people moving the chess pieces behind this technology that have lost me, not the idea itself. That and the fact that I couldn't justify spending in the neighborhood of $2000 for the software, RK pedal, and a portable roadworthy and speedy computer system, while still having questions remaining as to whether I could control my sounds the way I wanted, and whether certain effects blocks (like the Digitech Whammy) would be sonically improved to the point where I could actually use them the way I need to.

this post is intended to inform of my experience, and flame away if you will. this is just one person's experience, and disappointment with the removal of the Snapshot feature (as it pertains to the OP). I'm happy to answer any questions or fill in pertinent information. But please, let's not turn this into something that serves nobody (i.e. a flame war).

as easy as it was to setup a snapshot, the functionality hasn't disapeared, only the work flow. It was the same as recalling a preset. work flow as a whole has taken steps backward since GR3.
