I posted this elsewhere but I think it should be said here:

This is a bit of a slap in the face of Battery users. A bunch of the most requested features for Battery seem to have made their way into this new product - the big ones for me being sample slicing and integrated step sequencer. These are two of the most requested features for Battery and to see them in a new product that has significant cross-over functionality rubs me the wrong way. It would be nice of NI to sell a Battery to Maschine upgrade path or update Battery with these features (or can Battery altogether and release software only Maschine). I won't hold my breath on that one.

I was wondering this myself. What is the logic behind making a new product that makes one of your most popular products almost null.

Why didn't they just make Battery 4 and add the HW unit as part of the package. Are they killing off Battery?

Why would anybody buy Battery now when they can get the software only version of Maschine? What function does Battery have over Maschine...any?

There won't be any software only version of Maschine.
Lots. Maschine has a limit of 16 slots (what would be cells in Battery) per kit. Maschine doesn't import anything besides .wav/.aif. Things like that...

God forbid they'd make one killer do-it-all drum solution, lol.

Put a nice step sequencer in battery, that's all i need! Or even better, put a sequencer like Ableton's Live session in kontakt and that's all i'll EVER need.

    peace

Not necessarily. There ist still the Musikmesse 2009 later this year. Last time when NI released many new products, updates and Komplete 5 was in late summer/fall 2007. So maybe we just have to wait for fall 2009? :)

So bascially maschine to a heavy battery user is pointless? It sure would have been nice to have a hardware controller for battery with some of the features maschine has.I'm a heavy Kore 2 & Battery user and it just seems like a overkill to have both battery & maschine especially is limited with only 16 slots
    ---
Is Battery 4 coming anytime soon? NI please please make a hardware pad control surface for battery!

So the machine hardware work with battery? I'm wondering can I use all of maschine's functions & features like the note repeat and will it show up on the lcd displays and be fully functional?

I don't think so. The controller portion will probably only make use of the pads and not much else.

    What does 'works' mean?

I assume the pads work, but what about controlling fx, levels, etc...?

I seriously doubt it will control the fx and levels

you can use the Maschine Knobs to control any knob in Battery, that is any knob that accepts MIDI Controller input.

Is there a template in midi controller mode of Maschine for Battery 3?

there is no Template for Battery 3 no. but then there does not seem to
a consistent use of Automation with the Kits in Battery 3 - unless i am missing something?

anyway, using the Automation page and then using MIDI Learn to change the Controllers works - i have just tried it.

I believe i'll stick with Battery and hopefully native instruments will be smart enough to continue with the development of battery 4 and include a hardware pad controller.NI Product developers please listen!

Exactly. There aren't any preassigned automation routings in Battery; how could there be a template?

sorry i need to say this again, Maschine (Software) is a Groovebox (all the parts that make a groove) and not only a Drum Machine.

and in many ways Maschine is 2 things. firstly it is a Software Groovebox and secondly it is a Hardware Controller.

the Maschine Hardware Controller is an all-purpose MIDI Controller with Pads, Knobs, and Buttons that can be programmed to play any music software - instrument/effect/Mixer Controls etc. the Controller Editor Software is very easy to set-up and the Editing options are deep.

therefore the Maschine Hardware Controller is very easy to set-up to use with Battery, any Automation you choose to select in Battery can be easily programmed in the Control Editor Software (if you want to keep the way Battery creates new Controllers for assignment) or you can use Battery's MIDI Learn to work with the default Controller Editor Software.

to clarify, the Maschine Hardware Controller has been designed to work across the board, that will obviously include Battery.

hopefully a future version of Battery will improve on the rather cumbersome way you have to assign automation - something along the Massive right click on a knob would be much better.
