OK, so this post evolved the more I've thought about it and the topic should really just be "solo/muting"

When I press solo, I think I should somehow be able to group the selected tracks for soloing just like mute. When I press and hold down multiple pads before releasing any, it should solo those pads. The same should be true for groups.

There are many times that I just want to fall back to 3 specific sounds, but I can't do this without Superman-like agility because currently, I have to solo one of the three and immediately hit mute and unmute the other two.

Also, I think solo and mute should have an option to leave the tail on the sample akin to switching patterns or scenes.

It would also be nice if a pattern or scene saved solo and mute states. This is far more intuitive than deleting all the notes on the other tracks or toggling patterns in a scene (which is easier in software, while mute/solo works really well on hardware)

I should also be able to record any combination of solo/muting into a new pattern (as in mute the hi hat for two bars + let it run for two bars = two bars of hihat at rest and 2 bars of hi hat being played in a new 4 bar pattern.

As intuitive as it is to make derivative beats from solo/muting and pattern/scene changes, Maschine REALLY needs to capitalize on this, it's greatest strength. I NEED a way to make a non-destructive copy of my tweaking so that I'm not bouncing everything and rearranging it in Live. I also know that there is a lot planned on the MIDI in/out front for 1.1, but there really needs to be a way to derive scenes and patterns from solo/muting/pattern/scene switching, just to make life easier.

-Midi mutes for scenes and patterns instead of just muting the sound engine.. This would ONLY filter midi note on events from the sequencer when engaged. It would not mute CC or note off/relese events so if you mute a sound that is still sustaining it will decay naturally instead of cutting out abruptly. This will be needed especially to be able to mute the new midi out channels since they are not a part of the sound engine.

-A way to record midi mute/solo automation to scenes and patterns.

-Mute/solo groups similar to choke groups but for muting tracks/sounds together. When assigned to the same group, muting one sound in the group mutes them all. Again this is for the pattern and scene midi based mutes.

-A way to toggle off the solo exclusive behavior in preferences. ( I prefer the current solo exclusive way personally.)

Muting groups should mute all pads

Well I was just playing around and noticed that when you mute a group, it doesn't mute all the pads, I mean it does mute all the sounds, but you don't have a choice of bringing the sounds in that group back individually, so if you mute the group you can only un-mute the group. I think it would be better if muting the group actually muted all the pads as well so that you have a choice of either un-muting the group or un-muting each pad individually. I'm thinking this would be much easier for live mixing, at least for me.:S

Ok now that I'm getting deeper into it, I've noticed solo is a little weird too, the way I see it, right now I can only solo a sound from a group, but if other groups are active in my arrangement, they don't get muted? I don't understand that, Solo should solo that sound, and mute everything else. Am I missing something here?

Maybe NI could add a shift feature so that if you held shift + Solo + a pad, it would solo like a typical solo button does.

Better yet do it the other way around, have the shift option for only soloing the sound from the group, not the whole arrangement, and leave the solo button by itself for the normal operation since that's what is more typical.

Another +1 to the intro post

Why not set it up so you can solo one, two, or more sounds?

    +1 for the OP

Just hit solo, the pad and the group simultaneously, there you go ;)

I don't want solo to mute everything, because i've got Send/Return groups going, they should be active all the time.
