It depends on where you got the keyboard. I got mine from Sweetwater and they are shipping me a new one.

Mine already was new. So it heavily depends on your luck how big the differences are. I guess over time the resistance will decrease anyways, right? That's really something which shouldn't happen at this price.

I will either keep the device or exchange it, as there is no alternative on the market yet.

Wait a second. So you returned it and still have Komplete Select? :D

Hello all, It's been awhile from this discussion but has anyone got any news on this? I just bought my own S49 two days ago and noticed that it has the same problem that the control knobs are all working differently? This is pretty annoying since the product costs almost 600€.

That's correct. When I got my keyboard I also bought Komplete Ultimate so I'm guessing that the Select gets absorbed into Ultimate.

I haven't heard any more on this. Some of my knobs turn more easily than others but the pressure required to turn them is minimal and the difference between the harder to turn knobs to the easier ones is also barely noticeable. Not sure if the folks reporting the problem have major differences with turn knob pressure comparison. For me, it doesn't affect my workflow or cause interruptions with sound when knob tweaking the sounds. You may want to submit a trouble ticket to N.I. if the knobs are not working properly.

I've tried an S25 and an S49 at my local dealer and the knobs had totally different resistances. I decided not to get either of them. Interestingly, when I tested a Maschine Mk2 the knobs where identical for the most part. This might have been pure chance because the knobs on both products are said to be the same. Unfortunately there was only one Maschine to play with so I couldn't compare different units.

I can confirm that. All Maschine Studios I tried had less variation than the keyboards - probably better QC

    So, update...

This is still happening in 2018-2019! My KK A61 has the same issue, the 8th knob from the left has WAY more play in it than any other encoder. 4th one from the left is similar.

Who's to say they won't have this problem when MK3 comes out too? It's crazy that a company with this much positive press can't get their encoders consistent. Just weird.

Check height of knobs, as if one is on too tight it can drag against surface.

Anyone knows if Maschine mk3 has the same issues?

Oh wow, I see I am not alone in noticing this anomaly.. I have the KK61 and thought maybe I got an "open box" unit but it was new. I actually use this difference to adjust the knobs without having to look at them, I can tell which ones I am turning based on their resistance.
I do have the Machine MK3 and the knobs are very close but do vary slightly in resistance.
This resistance is due to a fluid in the knob body that causes a damping effect.
Here is a cool video about "Damping Grease"

I have an Allen & Heath ZED436 mixer that has a few knobs that have less resistance than others so it is not exclusive to NI.
I still love the keyboard, just hope the knobs hold up over the years...

I‘ve been wiggling the knobs of my S61 for quite a number of years now and while they retained their huge variance in resistance, they did not malfunction yet.

That's good to know, I didn't think it was anything to do with the contacts. I think it is just the way the knobs are lubricated with grease or something... actually resistance is bad for guitar knobs since you need to turn those faster than normal. Thanks for the update!
