I've recently started recording with GR2 and been very happy with the tones I'm getting from it so far. You can hear some examples on my SoundClick at...

If you want to hear a big fat rock/metal lead tone I'd start with "Monday Blues" - which isn't very bluesy! Or try "Rain" for some amateur Vai-style tones or "Beautiful" for a mix of clean and distorted sounds.

    Comments welcome.

    Hey Stoner,

Nice work. I thought all of those tracks sounded good. Now I have to ask Mike... Have you uploaded any of your patches? Becuase if you haven't then SHAME SHAME!!! What other gear are you using in your studio? Protools? Cubase?

    Nice tunes Dude.

Some very cool work there, Mike! Certainly on the first three tracks I've listened to: Good balance and control, with a very clear idea of appropriate tone for the job!

Do you do each take 'as is' - live, almost - or do you edit 'best bits' from various tracks in a sequencer/workstation?

I'll have a listen on my mp3 player once I've downloaded.

Oh... did I mention very nice playing too?

Thanks for sharing, and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of your tracks.

    Thanks for the comments!

I normally do three or four passes through each track and then paste together the best bits in ACID PRO 6. It's a very cheap and easy-to-use DAW that does everything I need for recording.

I keep changing my sounds, so I haven't got a copy of the ones I used on these tracks. But basically, as an example, to get that "Gary Moore meets Zakk Wylde" tone from my "Monday Blues" I use the following...

MESA amp model in RAW mode with the gain at about 1pm.

Stick a tube screamer in front with drive about 2pm.

    "Small hall" reverb.

For cabs I use "clean sound capture" with the "air" control near max. This makes a real difference to the sound.

My guitar is a Musicman Axis.

    It works for me!

New tune added. No warm up or multiple takes. Just plugged guitar into GR2, started backing track, improv'd over the top of it, converted to MP3 and stuck on SoundClick. Took 15 minutes from start to finish. I love GR2!

    "Surrender"...

Another new track added. All done with GR2. A whacky funky thing with an old-school shred blast on the end.

Feel free to comment if you want!

    "Arctic Roll"

    Hey Mike,

I didn't have time to give all the tunes a full listen but there's definitely some cool stuff on there.

    Nice tone and playing!

If you want to hear the "Electric Lady" flanger in use I've just recorded a down'n'dirty funk rock track in the style of Pat Travers (i.e. blues rock guitar with heaps of flanger/phaser/wah). See what you think.

It's called "Greasy Truckers" on my SoundClick...
