It's because the competition - Omnisphere, Alchemy etc - do have useful browsers.
    ---
I don't know how much Keir communicates to the product managers about what he picks up here. I'd email it to support.

It's not just Absynth, FM8 and Massive that got crippled it's Kontakt as well. It used to have a database system close to Kore's.

But thats one synth VS 33 vsts of all range from effects to drummaschine to synths.
And the browsers are stil usefull for a lot of people.

I'm still in shock that they abandoned Kore. It is such an essential part of our studio that the idea of doing without it is troubling. It's not just colors and ratings. The attribute sorting and user attribute capability made it so many times more useful. Without Kore 2, I would probably use a small fraction of the patches I use now.
We bought Komplete 9 but it's just sitting in the box right now pending tests to see whether we can shoehorn in the new sounds with our Kore setup.
If Komplete were just a feww hundred sounds then none of this would matter. I suppose if we never had Kore, we wouldve made due. but we did have Kore and we used it extensively. To take it away seemed like an extreme version of self sabotage.
The simple fact is that NI made something truly special with Komplete and when they removed Kore it was like they gave a great product a lobotomy. We will always use FM8, Absynth, Reaktor etc but Maschine is a mess as a browser. It's sad because we see that there will be no way to grow with NI. The more patches and products they put out it seems like the hole gets dug deeper.
Fortunately we have Komplete 8 and Kore 2 running well and we're sticking with it. When NI decides to give Komplete a reasonable broser - even without all the Kore functionality - then we'll be all over it. Maschine isn't 'reasonable.' It's minimal.

I recently bought Komplete 9, having stuck at K6 since the Kore debacle. I have integrated it into my Kore setup as much as I need to - all Kontakt 5 library patches have ksd versions with proper mappings for the controls and tagging - available in this forum. Similarly I made templates for all the Reaktor ensembles, also available here, and it is possible to use these to import all the banks for these as Reaktor batch import is so far still working fine. There are a few smaller Kontakt libraries that I haven't done anything about like the Pianos and drums but only because I don't really use them, but it would be short work to make Kore versions. All the other synths I stick with the engine versions when I'm using Kore. The fx I do use but they have just a few controls anyway so little point in making templates for but if you wanted to it would not take much work. Their patches don't import but they don't have lots so shouldn't take long to save them as ksds.

Just to help make this easier I have pulled all this together in a new thread here:

In Omnisphere and Alchemy you've got all your synths & sampled patches together in a single browser. In Komplete you can't even cross search similar instruments in different ensembles in Reaktor.

    That's good to know.

I fear buying Komplete and getting Kompletely lost ;) not being able to find and manage properly.

You will (get lost) and you won't (be able to find and manage properly).

It's so ironic that a company had a device that allowed one to easily search for given sounds across ANY synth now only has a hobbled search across each of its own synths. NI has gone from leader to not even follower.

A very great shame as, to a degree, I still miss being able to rely on NI and I keep coming back here in the almost vain hope that they will wake up and again start considering the needs/wants of musicians rather than fashion.

Yeah one core application to categorise and manage sounds, plus the ability to layer them to create complex multi instruments, and (the icing on the cake) the ability to morph between presets (like you can in FM8 but extended to all plugins including multis). What a great idea, they should make this. No brainer really. They could call it Kore. :)

LOL at the "they could name it Kore" comment :D hahahaha nice one

Why did they pull the plug on Kore actually?

And fyi you can still layer multiple plugins at the moment witouth Kore ;)

Yeah but not in such an integrated way, with for example such a high degree of hardware control and certainly not the ability to morph presets (Live probably comes closest in that respect but it doesn't work well)

The main reason Kore was dropped was Maschine; it takes a lot of work to create tagged libraries and when Maschine had plugin support added evidently some bright spark decided why not use Maschine as the core librarian, except that would mean twice the work, so Kore got dropped. Why they thought Maschine could fill Kore's shoes in that respect though is anyone's guess, for a start it's over twice as expensive, and really it's like trying to bang a square peg into a round hole, I doubt a single person has bought it to act as a librarian. Maschine should have stayed a complement to Kore, not its replacement.

Kore wasn't perfect - it did have a few limitations that they had painted themselves into a corner over, particularly in the closed nature of the format, not all NI plugins integrated so well (Kontakt for example, although Maschine has the same problem ironically) and lack of open support for third party presets, but if they had listened to us users these were resolvable.

In 4 days it's going to be 2 yrs and the opinions haven't changed, lol. Kymeia even sounds a little more bitter then back then, if I may say so :)

I get the impression that Kymeia is one of the most restrained of all of us :D

I think it telling that so many of us continue to be hurt by the destruction of Kore after so long. If nothing else, it shows that this was not a fashion toy but a serious and useful piece of kit. It also goes to show how short-sighted the owners of NI were and remain.

Kymeia's quite a gentleman. It's another attitude for getting things done, sometimes it pays off if you don't make enemies. And in other occasions protesting works, look at Monsanto, they gave up trying to sell their experimental seeds in the west-, mid-, east and northern European market.

I hope NI will start realizing customers look for alternatives for a company's products if they don't "like" a company. And I'm still hoping something else will fill the niche.

No matter how carefully you save, you can NO LONGER have a system whereby you can arbitrarily decide on how you want to search. You can no longer (for example) decide "I want a dark-sounding, effected, synthesised sax" and be able to go straight to it. With Kore you get that withOUT knowing which synth produced such a sound. Now you have to go to each of your synths and HOPE that you can narrow down a bit, before having to audition many, many sounds. Unless, of course, you have a sound called 'dark-sounding, effected, synthesised sax' to give you a clue.

Of course, if you're using Alchemy, Omnisphere or VirSyn's Poseidon, you can browse effectively. Which is exactly what I do. I want to be making music, not browsing unintelligently through thousands of sounds, which is why my NI synths hardly get used for anything other than old projects these days (and, because of long-term, unfixed bugs, even in the old projects they are being slowly eased out).
