Eventide, makers of great sounding high-end guitar effects famous for their pitch shifters and 'harmonizer' in particular - but unfortunately with a high-end price tag to match - have started making stomp boxes at a much lower price point. Most recent addition is this, the Pitch Factor Harmonizer:
    http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/PitchFactor.aspx
    Interactive demo: http://ftp.eventide.com/ljdl/www/PitchFactorDemo.html
Now, I've been nagging about this for a couple years now: NI - create something like this! The CPU in these little boxes can't be stronger than those found in most any relevant computer running GuitarRig today. Un-messy pitch tracking is possible! Ugly metallic ring is avoidable, etc.

I've stopped buying stomp boxes. May have to reconcider.

yeah this pedal has awesome sounds, wish gr could do some of this stuff...

Some of it probably could be aproached, but the pitch shifter in gr really needs a major upgrade...

    Would awesome.
Is there anything VST that does anything like this now? I would reckon melodyne?

But I've been looking for something sturdy to use for live shows. For vocals, not guitar. What do you lot reckon?

yes yes yes yes yes please. that is exactly the next big effect that is missing from the otherwise near complete awesomeness of riggy.

i seem to recall that eventide have made harmonizer plugins, but only for protools dsp cards, and possible the tc electronics powercore thingy, so they're not the most readily available of plugins for the average user, especially for live stuff.

Nothing is going to compare with Eventide, but you can make harmonizer effects using a few Psychedelays. not quite the same but interesting nonetheless.

    dry/wet---50% or less
    time-------1/128T
    feedback--0%
    sync-------on
    stereo-----1.00
    pitch-------whatever harmony you want

separate them with a Split so they're not harmonizing each other. experiment with the settings.

Funnily, one of the demo presets on Eventide's website is very similar to one of the GuitarRig presets with PsycheDelay. It reveals even more obviously that this component is constructed with a huge inspiration from some Eventide processors. That's a good thing, and the PsycheDelay is certainly one of my favourite components!

The problem in GuitarRig, as I see it, is the underlying technology that does the tracking. It's too slow and not precise. It's actually less evident in the PsycheDelay somehow, but very appearent in the Oktaver and PitchPedal. The pitch shifted signal also frequently sound harsh and metallic, compared to what you can hear on this stompbox demo.
There are Harmonizers and then there are "harmonizers".

If Eventide had some giga processing muscle available only to them to pull this off, I wouldn't mind. That used to be the case, and Eventide rack processors had the price of a used car. That's 10-15 years ago. Given the price point of their boiled down Stomp box version, it simply can't hold any more powerful CPU than a standard PC / Mac does; probably it's quite a bit weaker, actually. This is why I assume that the same quality found here, could and should be available in software like GuitarRig as well. The hardware resources available in F.I. a laptop are not the limitation, it's all in the software programming. I urge NI software programmers to make this a priority.
Get rid of the " " in "harmonizer".

There's a Reaktor .ens called daBlackbird that does stuff like this amazingly well, but the pitch shifter in Guitar Rig 3 isn't bad at all. I did look into the Soundtoys VSTs: http://www.soundtoys.com/products/Crystallizer/ but I couldn't justify the cost even though the sound quality is excellent.
