I know there's always been much confusion and frustration around Spiral... but I'd be really grateful if someone can help me once and for all!

I would like to use it to trigger some EXS24 patches but can't make it do anything at the moment. Please please if someone can provide a brief step by step to get this set up and running I'll kiss your feet (metaphorically).

    Cheers!

Ah, ok I think I did it... crazy stuff... MIDI scares me! It knocked my Alphatrack out.

are you sure you did, if so how?

because as far as i know. you can't send MIDI from one plugin to another plugin in Logic, because AUs don't behave like VSTs.

    Yeah, basically as Genn did...

Enable IAC driver in Audio/Midi, set MIDI out of Spiral to IAC, then patch it into the sequencer input in the environment of Logic and it worked. Kind of long winded and a little ad hoc but I'm sure I can get what I want out of it.

Nice idea for a plug... a bit different. Thanks

It won't help you to trigger EXS-24 but, when I want to use Spiral (or other such things) in Logic I tend to use Kore and then put the instruments I want into a Kore channel.

This also has the benefit of letting me use VST's in Logic.

You may already be aware of this but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

    Matt.

but they used Reaktor Standalone to send MIDI via the IAC Driver into Logic. that sort of works but you cannot Sync Logics clock to Reaktor's Clock Out.

i agree Kore is the best answer, and you can even use the Freeware midiO to send MIDI from Kore to another Instrument in Logic.

Ah... yes the wall I hit was not being able to synch the clock. Shame.

So I can do this with Kore? In which case I need to figure out how to do this... I only own the free Kore player. What relation does this have to Spiral? Can anyone help point out how this works?

    Thanks again!

you can't do this with Kore Player.

with the full version of Kore, you could have Spiral in Kore - inserted as an Instrument in Logic- sending MIDI via the freeware midiO - also in Kore - to another Instrument in Logic.

Logic won't Sync with Kore externally.

ok thanks very much for the response.

In that case can I set the tempo of Spiral manually in standalone? I'm not in front of the machine right now, but I don't remember seeing this... I know you can set the rate, but the slider at the top left seemed arbitrary.

That way, I guess I can at least match it in Logic, record the MIDI and move it to the correct location. I really want to try some ideas out with this, but I'm going to need a workaround to synch to Logic in some way, no matter how random.

One more thing... I believe there was no Pentatonic scale selection which seems like an oversight. If there's one scale that sounds good with any/all notes it's that (particularly in relation to some ethnic music which utilizes techniques similar to Spiral e.g. Gamelan).

    Cheers

i can't answer you second question because i don't use Spiral that much.

Reaktor has a click in bpm, so you can set that.
