first post here... I need some advise on how i can improve the sound quality of reaktor. i use ableton live as my daw and reaktor as a plug in mostly for drums. there is just such a huge difference in sound quality, levels etc when compared to abletons impulse drum machine ... I am using the same samples in both samplers but in reaktor they sound awfull. i love the interface and flexibility of reaktor though and i would love to use it to produce tracks....
    any suggestions?

oh yea, i forgot to mention that I am using deadbeats multi , from the user library and routing it through diffrent tracks in ableton. i get the same sound quality problems using the massive ens. as well though.
    help!

you haven't said anyting about which computer or soundcard you are using?

what do these Reaktor drum machines sound like with Reaktor as a standalone?

btw, try increasing the output latency in Live.

    Maybe video

I hasd terrible problems with the quality, it turned out to be Audio driver interaction with Video drivers. I went to the trouble shooting and shut off the "enable write merge" checkbox and Reaktor sounds as good as any softsynth now.

It might also help to give a more detailed description of the problem. "Terrible sound quality" could be a lot of things; clicks, aliasing, distortion, missing bottom end, high-pitched ringing, all the drums sound like farts, etc, etc.

    Graincloud Sampler

My guess is the difference between the two playback methods, and the fact that Deadbeats uses the grancloud sampler as pointed out in the deadbeats comments by Sowari.

If the impulse is not using any granular business on the samples but direct wave playback, then it prolly sounds as expected. But if you play those same samples through a granular engine, you may be quite disappointed especially in the high frequencies.

Looking at the deadbeats structure, it indeed uses the graincloud module as a sampler. And the only controls particular to this module being used are the Pitch and Pan Jitter inputs - otherwise everything is constants. Unless you really need the pitch and pan jittering, my recommendation is to store the maps to disk, and then replace the grainclouds with a standard reaktor sampler. This should bring the sound in line with abelton's impulse. Not to talk **** about ableton, but the audio engine in reaktor doesn't have any hidden tricks for efficiency or stretching etc...its just naked math and as such should not be considered subordinate to live in terms of quality since quality in the digital world equates to precision. ??

Hope this helps and let us know how it works!!
