    Hi,

I've got some problems with my Traktor Z2.
When i play some analogics vinyls, the sound is very bad.....it's sound "muffled".
I had no concern with my very very old mixer, a gemini UMX 7 (10 years old, but sound better). I dont' know what to you...
Is anyone had the same concern ????

Time to buy new styli or carts. I use Shure M44-G's or M44-7s and real vinyl sounds dope on the Z2. Older records especially albums are quieter compared to modern house 12" singles. The gain for older vinyl I don't crank higher than the 12 o'clock position. My styli are both new - less than 6 months and the sound is crisp and clear and thumpy!

Dude, how is that helpful? They say, right in their post, that it sounds fine on their other mixer...

I have noticed this too. After giving my Audio 8 to my brother in exchange for his z2 (he upgraded to a bigger mixer) im really regretting it.

The Z2 when playing vinyl, is embarassing compared to a £20, 10 year old mixer, in terms of output + quality.

When trying to play vinyl along side timcode the difference in volume is crazy! Vinyl is so quiet, i have to turn the gain up full, and most of the time, isnt enough.

The Audio 8 had the option to adjust the internal mixing volume to find a common ground between the two (Main wasnt greyed out in traktor).

So far i havnt found anything helpful to overcome this. Has anyone any advice before i sell this waste of a mixer?

Been using traktor scratch since the begining, and now with the "latest" equipment and software youd think it would only get better?

    Any help is appreciated!

I know this a really old thread. But just in case someone else has the same issue. The sound in vinyl mode is awful. I've had my Z2 for a few years now and tried everything. I can tell you it isn't anything to do with the carts, cables, TT's or even the surface your decks are sitting on. As the OP said the volumes are so low and the gain has to be cranked up almost to max which causes issues. The sound is really tinny and has no bass. I've tried my decks with other mixers and vinyl sounds fantastic. With the Z2 it is impossible to mix vinyl and timecode. The levels and quality are miles apart. I feel like the Z2 has been falsely advertised. It is not up to it at all. Even using vinyl as a Live Input in Traktor doesn't sound great. All in all it's an awful mixer and I'll be selling soon as I can.

The Vinyl preamps in this mixer are simply poor. There is nothing you can do about it. Perhaps NI did not really focus on that this since the main goal was to bring an affordable digital mixer to use with Traktor. This is the same for all Traktor audio interfaces. The preamp quality is poor on all units.

They definetly didn't focus on the pre amps. What gets me is that it was advertised as giving the "ultimate flexibility when it comes to mixing analogue and digital Dj'ing." It wasn't exactly cheap either. I bought mine for £425 new. Really it's just a cheap knock off of the Pioneer DJM-T1. I'll be avoiding NI in the future. Now it's just a case of getting shot of my Z2 and getting something thats up to the job!!
