The latency on the EMU drivers is so-so. I have a 1212M and can't get it below 8 ms.

There's quite a price range for audio cards. Ones under $500 aren't going to get the best latency. The winner for low latency is the RME cards but they are going to set you back $1000.

The class A phono preamp built in is the main reason why I got mine. When playin the abbey road drums , I don't mind the 8ms latency, although I wish it could go down to 4ms. Even on an i7 system with 9GB of ram I can't go any lower without it crashing.

RME did release the babyface card if you are interested but it will set you back 600 good ones. It has HD quality Ad/DA converters and you can go down to 2ms via USB bus. I don't know if it has a phono preamp though

Got my Edirol UA 4FX working!

Hi, I made a nice discovery:

While using Kontakt Player (64 Bit) I had random crashes. The computer powered off and no dump file was written. I was unable to locate the reason.
I must say, this happened infrequently and under all other circumstances this computer is rockstable. My workaround was to use the 32 Bit version as a VST.
So I always believed Kontakt has a hidden bug.
I found out, that not Kontakt was the reason:
Yesterday it crashed the first time when I invoked other software, a Youtube Video. This time 2 dump files where written and "WhoCrashed" recommended to update atipag.sys.

This is part of the ATI Radeon driver and is updated, when the latest version (10.12) of the ATI Catalyst software is installed.

After I installed it, I have now run Kontakt Player in 64 Bit mode playing MIDI files nonstop over night for more than 18 hours and it is stable!

The other effect is, I have no dropouts with my EDIROL UA 4FX anymore and I can reduce the latency to the lowest possible setting 3.3ms Input, 1ms Output and it is totally stable and clean. This did not work before.
I can open and close Windows, start programs, no dropouts at all.
CPU usage is unchanged, but that is not a problem anymore, it works and my Phenom sixcore CPU can handle this with ease.

Obviously the graphics driver previously has stolen too much processing time from the USB or Audio thread and this is repaired now.

BTW, DPClat did not indicate this as a problem as it only checks DPC latency, but not thread priorities....

    Best,

    Peter

Well, I'm running windows 7 home premium 64. But I installed the beta driver on top of the CD install —which it said not to do in the downloaded instructions, but the website said was OK to do. When I installed the beta without the CD install it didn't work at all.

But I was planning to upgrade to professional so I can run in XP mode. Is there any reason why it would crash in professional and not in home premium?

By the way, I'm running at 5.8 ms no problem. AMD phenom II quad core 2.8ghz. Six GB ram. 100 voices, could probably go lower but it's fine for me as is.
