    hello ya all,

i have to buy a new pc for the studio and
don't know, what soundcard works best with
    reaktor.

in my old pc i have a soundblaster live together
with an audiowerk 8 and it's a mess. the soundblaster
driver produces crashes even when i'am only using the audiowerk.

i'm planning to use the audiowerk in the new pc, but also
    want an additional soundcard.

can anyone tell me, what soundcard is good and won't
crash my system when using it with reaktor, logic and stuff?

    many thanks

    hi self oscillate,

i have a W2K box with a m-audio delta 1010 and it has given me great results so far. i use sonar instead of logic, but i imagine that it would be okay from what i hear. i hear good stuff about other cards, but i don't know how good their ASIO is, and I've never used them personally with reaktor (although i have worked on a layla before for other stuff).

if the 1010 is overkill for you, there's also the delta 66 and audiophile2496 (i think the audiophile is under $200). one caveat, however: these cards don't have a built-in MIDI synth, so you'll either need a softsynth or another card for general MIDI (they do have standard MIDI I/O ports though).

    hope this helps!

    best

    Hello self oscillate,
I don't know whether you have bought your soundcard yet. I just got me a Midiman Delta 66 with Omni I/O for my PC.
I use Logic Audio Gold V4.8 with Dynamo and B4, and it works a treat.
The EASI drivers give me very low latency.
It is true that I had to buy a separate MIDI interface - I got the Midiman 2x2.

Cards from companies that update their drivers are a good start. Midiman are real good at this and i hear so is terratec, but i can not comment on terratec stuff so much because i have never used their cards. RME stuff is down right amazing, and that is the overall view of that companies cards.. just a bit on the mo $ side...

Yes! --> shoot for a PCICardbus type soundcard. The Firewire ones are good if your laptop is a mac. If it is pc you never know how good the Firewire chip is. (Texas Instrument type is good)
if it is a usb one, sometimes (on the pc platform) the usb bus does not supply enough power...this is not good for usb based audio soundcards

so, i would say (from experience) try and go for a Cardbus type.
that is not to say that the firewire ones and the usb ones will not work fine on your system, it is just not a safe bet.

    PC Laptop soundcards

I just bought a PC Laptop yesterday. Now I need to make a decision on which Audio interface to buy (Reaktor/Spektral Delay/ Pro52/ Sonar, etc) - OS is XPpro. I could buy the MOTU 828 (this PC does use the TI Firewire chip), or I could buy an audio interface that connects via PCMCIA card slot. Is one format superior to the other in any way? Which laptop PC audio interfaces are people willing to recommend and why?
It appears as though MOTU is the only company making a Firewire based audio interface. The only PCMCIA interfaces that I have seen are made either by Echo, or RME. I wish MAudio would make a laptop compatible (non-USB1)interface. Anyone know if any of the companies are getting ready to release a USB2.0 audio interface?
    Thanks, Marc

    RME

i would say the way to go is the multiface or digiface from RME. Much respect to all the above mentioned soundcard companies.. but when it comes to Laptops and performance PCIcardbus is the safest bet.

(OT) Where did you get ABSynth for PC?

Hello George. Which store did you buy ABSynth for PC from? I checked with a handful of stores. So far no one has it in stock.
    Thanks, Marc
