Yeah I do the same method or use gtune vst . Then change the root note in Maschine's zone editor if need be. The 808's I've downloaded already tell the root and key.

Yeah but my point was that the root note that is displayed (tagged) is incorrect.

Not all will be correct is my guess.

I'm shocked that so many people don't know about tuning drums. No, you don't tune acoustic drums between songs on stage, but you tune them in the studio. You also tune your drum machine to the right key for each song. It's common practice for those in the know. Always tune your bass drum, and you should tune your toms. Snare and cymbals are not as important as they have a lot of noise. Bass and toms do have tunable notes.

Anyway, after getting an email advertisement for this from NI today I'm wondering if the interface has improved.

The context here is the drums samples having a note information and that relates to the key of the sound-pack/construction kit and not the actual note that the drum hit is tunned to (if it is even tuned at all). They are probably just mass tag all the samples in the kit at once so the percussion also gets tagged... that's all.
Of course you can tune kicks to better fit a song... the same principle can be applied to any type of percussion for those who like it. "In the know" kind of makes it sound like it's some hidden secret... it's fairly simple and common.

Even if one says "you don't tune your drums 6 times during a single song" there will always be the few that actually do, that doesn't mean it's common practice.

I treat it like a record store with a listening station. Grab only the loops that moves you and chop away. The thing about one shots is i don't understand what the player was trying to do with certain drum sounds. If I heard what the live drummer was doing on the full loop then I will understand what to manipulate next. Even when I sample and chop myself making something on the machine drum live I userstand what was going on in my head at that time(I think I do?)

If all I can takeaway from a loop is one sound but I can recreate the patterns with other sounds then that's a win too. The ills of sample hoarding is you keep collecting instead of using and developing something new with your small set of sounds.

I pretty much do the same thing. I listen to sounds via my iphone or via my ipad. I like that some of the kits have a download all option now. I'm very selective when it comes to choosing sounds from sounds.com. What will be even in cooler is if they added a preset section to sounds.com, and you have all kind of sound designers create presets for NI instruments/Maschine/Battery Kits. This would be dope. Imagine getting Massive presets from Pluginguru, Output, Reaktor instrument builders all on sounds.com.

I just choose random sounds for no apparent reason. I actually employ my mother to decide what is best quite often. Yes I know.. fascinating

So when you download sounds from sounds.com that come from different providers, why don't they segment based onwho the creator was (i.e., I see cover art on the sight but the samples all go into one folder when you download them in bulk. Mick @ NI maybe you have someone who can answer that question. Thanks

Thanks a lot Mick @ NI

I think that even having the creator/maker in the metadata could really be helpful also. I see some have and some dont. It would be pertinent as, after you clean up and delete the files from your download folder, if you came across the folder in sounds.com, maybe a couple months down the road, you wouldn't duplicate the download of that same sound.
