Speaker IR’s in Guitar Rig 6

I have been messing around with Guitar Rig 6 for a couple of months and have largely got a set of amp sounds I want to work with.

I would like to be able to tweak this a little further by using speaker IR’s. After much Google Fu I found how to load them into Reflektor.
There seems to be no documentation, or online information, that I can find over what the dials in Reflektor actually do.
Wet and Dry are kind of obvious, Pre delay and Start I have left at 0 as they don’t seem to do anything nice. I have no idea if Decay does anything, so I left it at 100%.
What really confuses me is the Size control.

Is turning the Size control the equivalent of moving the microphone across the speaker cone or is it moving the microphone closer or farther away from the speaker.

Or is it a combination of both actions?
    Can anyone enlighten me?

Alternatively is there some way to use Control Room Pro for IRs

    Hi MickyMic,

unfortunately the Guitar Rig 6 manual is still missing the section for Reflektor.
In the meantime you can refer to manual for the Guitar Rig 5 version of Reflektor:
    https://www.native-instruments.com/fileadmin/ni_media/downloads/manuals/Reflektor_Manual_English.zip

(Correction: Reflektor is in the latest version of the Guitar Rig 6 manual)

There is no other way (yet...) to use speaker IRs in any other Guitar Rig 6 component. This is a missing feature we are aware of ;)

    Cheers,
    Eddie

    Hi Eddy
    Thanks for the quick response.
Sadly the information in the manual still doesn't really explain what the Size control does when a Speaker IR is loaded instead of reverb IR

SIZE – (50% to 200%) Resizes the IR, affecting both the time and the color of the reverb. If turned to the right, the size becomes larger which makes the length longer and the frequency content lower much like what is experienced in a room when the size is increased. Turn the knob to the left to achieve the opposite effect.

When using a Speaker IR turning the Size dial left or right clearly has a marked effect on the sound but it's not so easy to understand what this is doing, especially when the dial itself does not actually do anything until you take the cursor off the dial. So no real time adjustment. However I did find a workaround by using a container and assigning control of the Size dial there. Now I get a real time control and can get better idea of how the sound changes... it seems to acting as an EQ... but I'm still not totally sure... any more information greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

It has exactly the same function with any impulse response, no matter whether you're using an IR for reverb or for speaker simulation. It increases the length of the IR thereby deepening the frequency response, or vice versa. This is analogous to slowing down or speeding up a tape--just applied to the IR itself.

Yes, it's basically resampling the IR to a lower/higher sample rate, changing the length of the sample, which also impacts the frequency response.

Ok thanks everyone, I now know that it wasn't doing what I hoped it might do ;)
Hopefully I might still be able to use it to tweak the sound of the speaker IR in a manner which gives the result I want.
    Cheers
