How is any Stem Creation tool going to be of value to the average DJ who does not produce music? I don't get the hype about the stem creation tool.

I get the feeling that a lot of people could be mistaken and think the tool with take any track from your library and spit out the 4 music elements for you to use. The average user will could use pre purchased stems but highly doubt they will be actively i creating there own stems.

I see the tool more for producers and labels but not your avg DJ.

Per the Stems site " The free Stem Creator Tool and developer toolkit will be available for download in summer 2015."

You can create Stems with Ableton Live:

I do a huge amount of pre-production for my sets... and I'm very impatient!
Also I think the tool will benefit the average DJ, even if you only have an instrumental and an acapella of a track this would be awesome to have as a .stem surely?

The stem creator tool is important because while labels might not officially be releasing a ton of stems, independent producers and remixer wanting more DJs to play their tracks will release stems. I play a lot of premade remixes. I actually follow remixers rather than labels. If I know a certain remixer is releasing their remixes as stems, then I will most certainly use those much more. That can't happen until the creator tool is released.

Also, offering stems (even if for free) gives others the opportunity to remix your stuff which could lead to a lot of unexpected promo

I get the feeling this is gonna be a niche market for a couple of years before it dies out completely.
As we have no decent immediate content available from the get go, the only chance this format stands a chance is if we start bootlegging it. (Thanks again to alecman for the tools early on! :) )

Hey keep up the nice work. ;)

I see you got the MOGG-files from Rock Band too, that's been cruising the net for some years. This week I made a 100 stems myself, for now just the old classics that everyone knows and sings along. I have to tell it is immense fun to play in Traktor just to fade in and out the instruments. Putting loops in, making great acapella shouts of refrains. It's sure almost remixing on the fly and a great addition to parties. So I am not bored yet and will make more. :)

Noticed that these are only vocals - right? So there is no complete mixdown of the original song in this *.stem.mp4....?
