Yosemite 10.10 was seriously released back in October now (coming up on 6 months now) and there still isn't even any word in regards to any sort of progress on the hardware compatibility issues? I'm sorry, but is it really gonna be a year or longer before we hear anything? When I drop over a grand on a software bundle, I expect it to be compatible with the current operating systems by now - or AT LEAST some sort of update as to any progress they might be making to fix that. Are AVID and Native Instruments just being stubborn and not caring to work with each other on this? I just feel like I've been pretty damn patient waiting for a fix for this and still not even a word almost 6 months after the release of 10.10. Come on guys, let's get the ball rolling on this because at this rate, they'll have a new operating system by the time they get a fix for this and that just seems a little ridiculous to me. Waves and plenty of other companies have released fixes MONTHS AGO... so what's the hold up?? Sorry, this is just starting to get a little aggravating and even just the slightest update/word would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! I've searched everywhere and haven't been able to find anything recent in regards to this issue. I love NI's products and just want to be able to update my OS and be able to use these products efficiently and I'm just starting to feel like nobody gives a ****. Anybody else sharing my frustration? Or am I just being a complete dick here?

Yes, though I'm a Windows user, issues like this and such inacceptable development times let me feel scary.

Nice to know that I can't even get a legitimate answer as a paying customer. Thanks, NI - outstanding customer service!

If you want an answer, call support by phone. This is a user and not a support forum.

Nevertheless it's annoying, how slow NI support or let's say development is. But this specific case is a bit special, because two Davids (NI and Avid) are forced to work together on a problem caused by Goliath (Apple). And this Goliath currently causes major pain ... iOS 8, a catastrophy, Yosemite too, and the new Mac Minis weaker than the old models, just to name a few besides Goliath's arrogance.

Fact is, NI knows about the problems and are working on it, but as we see in missing updates for Kontrol, NI currently seems to be unable to cope ... I guess their dev department is just to small. A further indication for this thesis is the fact, that the user libraries (except Reaktor) are offline since January, which I find pretty much inacceptable.

More than an acceptable answer - thanks man! It sucks.. I honestly love their products, and considering how much they're used in the music industry, you'd think that they would jump to fix these things. Otherwise, I see more high-profile artists starting to lose interest. There's no point in rolling out the new Komplete and Kontrol S series if their older products aren't updated yet. They should worry about making all their products compatible first before rolling out new ones. I appreciate the input though - wasn't aware that iOS 8 and 10.10 were such a pain (just goes to show you how naive I am when it comes to developing software haha). They might wanna consider putting more resources into their development team! And considering that new Apple products come pre-loaded with the newest OS, I could see how this could be even MORE frustrating for other users with newer computers.

Try to see it from the perspective of NI's CEO. He needs to earn money to be able to sell his developers. It's a dilemma, NI needs to fix old and new problems, which only causes costs and helps to satisfy old customers in hope, they will buy future releases. But the new products also cause development tasks, which not only cause costs, but also will produce future income.

That's why I once said in a different thread, that NI is "dancing on too many weddings" as we say in Germany. In my opinion NI's development department is too small for such variety.

OTOH have a look, what's happening in larger companies.

Example: Sony announced the Playstation 4 as being capable to play 3D films and it was released without that feature. It took half a year, until Sony brought that feature by a firmware update. And today, one and a half year after release, it still can't play Audio CDs, though many ask for that feature.

Example 2: How many people switched from Cubase to Reaper, because Cockos' development is much faster. And why is it faster? Because they concentrate on the DAW only and don't release virtual instruments as an add-on.

In my opinion, NI should get inspired by Cockos :D

Yes, as I said above, but are they able to pay them? NI definitely needs to solve a problem here, but be careful too, because many companies got insolvent and then sold, because they weren't able to handle their own growth ... an example might be Steinberg.

But back to the Kontrol-S ... in my opinion it was released in Beta status. Just see, what was missing in October on release day and got fixed 'til the end of the year. But now it's getting very complex, because first there are so many DAWs out there and besides OSX they have to fight with three Windows versions ... Win7 being mostly used, the current Win8 and Win10 being just around the corner. This makes fixing bugs very complex and time consuming.

I hope they can handle all this, before too much customers get frustrated and search for alternatives. The first forum member already reported, that he sold his keyboard :(

    Hi Keir,

this knowledgebase article is the reason, why I said above, that NI and Avid need to solve this last Yosemite issue. What I find pretty annoying is, that Apple causes problems, which other vendors are being forced to solve. The same hard- and software worked nicely under Mavericks, didn't it? And does Apple assist NI and Avid in solving this problem? I guess not. Or am I wrong?

Of course I read that - I check it all the time, hoping for an update. I created this thread hoping to get more answers in regards to the issue and while my questions haven't been answered directly, at least I got a little more insight into the situation.

Apple is definitely to blame here as well - they don't make things easy. And it's definitely annoying that everything worked fine under Mavericks, and then we just hit a brick wall with this new OS. Really hope they get this issue solved ASAP.

Well you're referring to software.. Which isn't the issue. The compatibility issues come into play when dealing with the hardware.. What DAW are you using? And you've been fine using the external Maschine? Like it seems to be communicating alright with the software?

NI Maschine and Komplete Kontrol (latest versions) run fine on my MacBook Pro Retina 15" 2012 (MacBook Pro 10.1) with Yosemite 10.10.3. However, they refuse to even start up (hang) on an iMac 24" that I upgraded all the way from Snow Leopard, Mavericks (all worked fine with all Software installed) until Yosemite 10.10.3 as well. Other NI Software seems to run fine (Kontakt, Massive, etc.) on the iMac. I never had any of the software installed that is listed in th NI FAQ.

On both the MBPr and the iMac I run Live 9 (latest 64-bit version). The attempt to start the NI plug-ins for Maschine or Kontrol make Live hang on the iMac, however, no problem on the MBPr. I have no clue so far what it could be, but on my iMac it does not seem to be related to Digidesign or one of the listed drivers in the FAQ (they were never on that iMac). However, maybe some other stuff, that is also installed with those drivers might be part of something that is installed on my iMac. Would it make sense that all users having problems with Maschine 2 and Kontrol on their Mac briefly list their hardware related software installed, e.g. Euphonix/AVID Artist, Digidesign, etc.? Maybe there is a common denominator that we could find in our crash logs to help narrowing down the possibilities...

"Upgrade" might be the keyword here. As a new Macbook Pro owner I did a lot of research about Yosemite to become more familiar with OSX and learn how to handle potential problems. I found many Yosemite issues reported in general, that only seem to occur, if an upgrade installation was done, but not on clean OS installs.

So it might be worth to do a Yosemite clean install from an USB stick after a backup, so that you can install to a fresh formatted HDD.

Or did you do that? Your report sounded like you did several OSX upgrade installations on the iMac instead of fresh installs.

The MacBook Pro retina was also updated, similar to the iMac. The iMac from SnoLep directly to Mavericks (did never see Lion nor Mountain Lion), the MacBook Pro went through all of them, though not from SnoLep (it was the first gen retina MBPr). Except in this very case (iMac and NI hardware related stuff) all upgrading went pretty smooth with upgrading. Even a Steinberg USB driver (for a Yamaha v96i) was easily updated after the upgrade and everything (still except NI hardware related software) was like before on that iMac (Ableton, Push, Euphonix, Yamaha, etc). Even upgrading my 2008 Mac Pro with an old ATTO Raid controller to Yosemite went smooth with a little help of a command line switch to allow unsigned kext / drivers (which I tried on the iMac, too, but to no avail, of course).

I might consider reinstalling NI stuff (but that doesn't seem to help in these cases) or even uninstalling some weird old software that I maybe wouldn't even need any more. But doing a "USB stick" fresh clean install on that old iMac (which does not seem to have been planned by Apple at least)? Rather not. I would probably run into (many) other problems during reinstallation of some old software stuff I still would like to use, for example an installer might refuse to work with Yosemite, but as an upgraded software no problem would show up.

I would like to find out about those libraries in the background that are also part of the problem with "Digidesign" and other already identified bad citizens and then try to see which of my installed software uses those libraries as well. I am extremely tempted to suspect some common denominator, but the upgrade per se does not seem to point to it - as both the working and the non-working system have been upgraded at least 2 major releases. I still believe it might help to have a list of all hardware related software on the systems with a problem, like for example my Steinberg USB driver v1.90 (which is not present on the MBPr installation) or the Euphonix/AVID Artist Series Software v3.22 (which is also only present on the iMac).

Mmh, that might be a top candidate for the root cause of the problem, though 3.2.2 is Yosemite compatible regarding Avid.

Nevertheless ... in the Reaper forum is a guy, that recommends to never upgrade OSX, but always do a clean install. And from my research, especially about Yosemite, this recommendation seems to make sense.

If you have a full backup of the system, you have nothing to loose to try it out ... except your time ;)

PS: Yamaha lists USB driver 1.9.2 from April 2015 as Yosemite compatible. So that might be worth to try first.

When you say your "old" iMac.. how old are we talking here? Might that have something to do with it? And you say Maschine, hardware and everything, was working on your MBP with OSX 10.10? Starting to think this is more of a problem with Apple as opposed to NI, being that NI has been up to date, releasing new products and whatnot ... So they seem pretty on top of everything. Think maybe Apple is just not cooperating, or waiting to fix this issue with the next major OSX update/release. I really can't see this problem being ignored when considering how popular Apple is with music producers, etc.

That's what I fear is the main problem. But Avid also seems to be very slow on updates. And nobody knows anything about the ccoperation of Avid and NI regarding a solution ... at least this ccoperation wasn't successful yet.

That's not unlikely, because 10.11 is mainly an improved Yosemite besides a few GUI improvements as it seems.

Ignored or not, it's a disaster, that this problem is still unsolved after more than half a year after Yosemite release.

It's September 12th and 10.10.5 compatibility is still an issue for me with my MaschineMK2 and KontrolX1MK1.

At this point I don't know what to do.

Seriously... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe they are waiting for OS X El Capitan. And if they don't have something figured out shortly after that - well that's just ******* ridiculous and goes to show you how much effort they put into their customer service. Not like we're all running some left-field operating machines. We're talking about MAC OS - one of the most widely used operating systems in the music recording industry. I've been more than patient. I love how their little "update" on the situation states how they're working with Avid to solve this issue. Really? And a year later still nothing? They're either not working on it, or have a team of 5 year olds working on it. I didn't drop $1000 on the Komplete Ultimate bundle only for it to prevent me from updating my computer. Paying that much money, we should get some ******* solutions to our problems. **** you, NI.
