Something strange happened just now with Kontakt 5.

I run the Galaxy Vintage D and Galaxy Vienna Grand pianos. When I brought the computer up from sleep mode today, the pianos sounded odd, a bit off pitch.

So I mixed the piano (Clavinova) native sounds with the Kontakt-generated sound and I found that the Galaxy pianos (both of them) were perhaps a quarter semitone high. With the piano and Galaxy sounds mixed, you can imagine the dissonance.

But without the Clavinova's sound mixed in, how could I have sensed such a small shift? I do NOT have absolute pitch. There's more to it. It's more than just a pitch shift: the intervals were a bit off. Not in the sense of ET vs. other-temperament. More than that. Very strange.

I suspected the tuning/transpose settings on the Galaxy pianos. But they were both set "true", no offset, 440 Hz. And the temperament on each was set to "Stretch", same as always.

I deleted both Galaxy pianos in Kontakt and reloaded them. Same deal.

So I shut down Kontakt and restarted ... and it now plays normally.

WTH? I can't explain this peculiar behavior.

Kontakt occasionally has a problem when waking from sleep mode (Win XP). But that generally leaves the instruments "dead". So I just close the instruments and reload them. Fixed, and no need to restart Kontakt.

But this pitch shift ... very strange.

That's really weird. The interesting thing would be if you tried to play audio in another app and figured out whether it was also out of tune. My first thought was that it could be a sample rate mismatch, especially if an external clock source is involved. But if that isn't the case, I don't know what it could be.

I'm having the same problem as the OP. Showard, were you able to resolve this issue?

It's the sleep mode. Kontakt doesn't seem to like it. After you return from sleep mode, make sure you exit Kontakt completely then load it up again.
