The full version of Kontakt will play SoundFonts, yes, but also do about a thousand other things way more complicated than playing SoundFonts. Playing SoundFonts is not its primary goal.

This is so annoying. I just want a player that can play my Soniccouture crowd choir, and it times out after 15 minutes. I don't want a 43gb set of samples or all the other things that come with Kontakt 5.
    Feh.

Soniccouture has not licensed Kontakt Player from NI for this library so the only option is to run it in K5 Full, where, as you have seen, it times out after 15 minutes (and can only be reloaded anew).

If Soniccouture did agree a licence with NI, as they have done for several of their other libraries, then it could play quite happily in K5 Player, but I guess they would have to increase the price of the library to cover their costs.

Which is a bit weird, as it's one of the two options of downloads for their library.
I have to say, as a Reaktor user for 13 years and an Absynth user for nearly that long, I've been really unhappy with NI's implementation of Kontakt/Kore/whatever sample player libraries and their differences and upgrades and which version works where and which doesn't. To say nothing of things like this.

    Just to bring clarity:

Generally speaking, you have to own the full version of Kontakt 5 to play back and edit Kontakt samples. When you see free Kontakt patches around the web, they're intended for registered Kontakt users. This is no different than any other program. You're a Reaktor or Absynth user, and when you find a free Reaktor ensemble or Absynth patch bank on the web, you have to own Reaktor or Absynth to play them back.

The only exceptions to this are:

    1) Some commercial developers license the Kontakt Player to bundle with their libraries, and people who purchase those commercial libraries don't have to own Kontakt in advance to play back that library; the Player version is bundled with the library.

    2) NI is generous enough to allow Kontakt to work in demo mode for 15 minutes at a time so you can check out Kontakt's features.

But this should not be misunderstood as being stingy. You have to own Kontakt if you intend to use it for most sampling uses (except for #1, mentioned above).

As I mentioned, I just want to use the player to be able to playback libraries that are in the NI proprietary format. To only be able to do so in a 15-minute demo mode is stingy: why have a "Kontakt Player" at all? And why change the rules for what can and cannot be played back on which version for every release?
For example, I also purchased Finale and Sibelius, and have since abandoned Finale for Sibelius. Both had come with libraries that function in specific versions of Kontakt. None will work in Kontakt 4 or 5 Player.
I personally think it's ridiculous. I have no need to edit samples, or many of the other things that the full version supplies. I just want to be able to play back libraries that I own.

That's a valid feature request: sounds like you want Kontakt as a player, with no bundled library. Kind of like a Kontakt LE.

I guess that's up to NI's marketing department to determine whether there's enough of a demand, and if it makes market sense, to release Kontakt in a version like that.

Meanwhile, if you're a pro, you absolutely should think about investing in the full version of Kontakt. It's so worth it. And even when you download various Kontakt patches, having the ability to tweak and edit them in Instrument Edit mode is indispensable. I use it daily.

Hi i have to agree this is a little crazy, ok here's my problem its similar to others who posted here the dif is i am running an older mac with 10.6.8 so i installed Kontakt 4 and then used the code for the FREE full version note I say FULL as it says FULL Version FREE on your site of 5 now again I installed 4 used the code sent and it says in the serv center that it has been reged along with the sounds see Screen Shot.

Yet I see no sounds cant load them, maybe the ones i got from the site only work in 5 anyway I have my own sound samples and the do load but it is still in demo mode again it shows as reged and yet my own sounds show its still in demo mode how do we fix this?

If your site says FREE Full version then that's what I expect a Full version whether that be 4 / 5 don't care but I want the FREE Full version as shown on your site to work with my sounds your sounds any sounds period.

I feel that if 5 is FREE then 4 should be as well and service man does show it is auth, so why does it still work only in DEMO MODE
I have to say as much as I like your stuff I don't see this as a good experience that makes you want to buy stuff if we must jump through hoops just to use the supposedly FREE Full Version not in Demo mode.

It says upgrade but not sure about that as well if this is not able to be FULL how do I make it full like it says V5 would be or how can I install V5 FREE Full without some crazy workarounds to install it?

And how can I use the FREE sounds as I said they don't work or show up either, need these two problems solved.
