I am new at this DJing and I know the importance of listening and having a intstinctive affinity to the beat of the music you are playing. But it becomes a bit overwhelming when you have hundreds and hundreds of songs to remember when and where the good "places" are in a song.

So I have been missing a function I have in my day to day working tool Adobe Flash. And any coding tool for that sake. Making notes or comments in the track.

Now what I envision is maybe as simple as two or three custom colors. And you can place them at will in the track. Each color means something to you. For example a pink line/square/dot could mean "here is a good place to cut in the next track" or it could mean "Start scratching here" (Digital version of the white tape on records).

And to make it even a bit more usefull you could ad a timer to it. Custom time setting that would visually tell you in the track thar you are closing in on a note/comment. That you set at either 32, 16, 8, 4 or 1 beats. A bit more discreet then the end of track red blinking.

This way cuepoints are used for cuing and jugling and are connected to your controller. Where as notes/comments are just visual guides to how you have planed your song.

Does this sound like a good idea or am I barking up the wrong speaker stand?

Is the concept unclear, or dosent anyone feel its a good idea?

    Kind of curious!

You can write a note for each cue marker, each loop point, each grid mark currently....but your idea of being able to assign your own colors to markers is a good one.

This has been posted before and i think its a good idea.
It would be nice to see the names of the Loops/Cue that we write flash up in the Loop section as the track approaches that cue point.
Also, good would be to see the names written on the cue point om the little flag.

Adding different colours is not something i agree with because certain cue point types have colours assigned and are distinguishable by colour and that colour must be same as mentioned in the manual to avoid user confusion.
There would have to be a "User Cue Point" that could assigned a colour by the user only.

As written above, labellable cue markers exists but to be useful, they need to be visually there at all times. I agree with Karlos:

1- The names should appear at all times on the flags (maybe vertically?)
2- Some kind of flash appearance of the next cue point label.

Alternatively, maybe there could be a customizable screen window showing Hot Cue points labels 1-8 for each deck.

I've always wanted this but never got around to make the suggestion.

Exactly what we were talking about.

Not disrupt the current colors or change them...just make a few user defined choices available....where you would know....Purple = bass drop / Orange = Mix out point whatever you wanted it to mean.

i originally registered to post something similar, as this touches what is one of the most important issues for me

the goal of these things is simple - I play psychedelic trance, but I have too large a collection to remember everything

so currently I'm resorting to just using different cue point types to mean different things - beat markers mean another distinct part of the track is starting, fade in means the track can be mixed in at that spot, fade out means the next section has to be the last, and i use load marker to signify places where I need to skip to the next cue point (stupid samples, boring breaks, etc)

but this is unpleasantly limited and has problems of its own - several beat markers mean you'd have to shift them all to shift the entire beat grid, etc - still, it's worth it even in this form

and standard cue markers mean everything else... mostly sections that can be safely played independently atd. - so I tried to explain in the marker name what it means, but the fact that you have to click open the marker list to see the names is a deal breaker, not to mention that with a larger number of cues it gets impossible to see which description belongs to which marker

I'd love to have the tracks mapped out better, because I love to jump around and generally use features of Traktor - and while you can tell for example a certain type of buildup or breakdown from the track overview waveform, it would be nice to be able to somehow insert more information into the overview by myself

so having SHOWING COMMENTS FOR CUE POINTS ON MOUSE OVER... oh boy, suddenly I can express whatever I need to know for each track, and I just have to hover over it with cursor

and with CUSTOM CUE POINT COLORS, or CUSTOM ICONS, I could easily signify to myself where a melodic passage starts, where it's just percussive sounds, what can be skipped and what are the key points of the track, where the vocal samples are...

    EDIT: few corrections
