Suggestions for decks (hot cues, beatgrid, loop, move etc.)

Hey Almaz, thanks for the thorough thread. SKIP CUE/Jump points are awesome as you don't have to edit the track and do it all - LIVE. So this was on our list for a while. Would be nice to collect all the deck suggestions in this thread as well

 

I agree, it would be nice if someone collects all the suggestions from this thread and the thread for the browser suggestions / smart lists, and make a list with all of them.
Maybe next step is to organize a voting pool and vote for the priority, so you guys know what are the most wanted features.

For instance:

On the forum, DJs often express their indignation that the Traktor does not care about their DJs or does not inform about what the team is doing. For example, each DJ can have 3 votes, that is, at the same time, he can only vote for three functions (most preferred)
We will be able to see the status of the request.
I think it will be a good experience, when the most requested features will be implemented based on voting. Even if the Traktor implements 2-3 functions per year, which were the most popular and were among the leaders in the voting, this will be positively perceived by the community.

What I love in Traktor controllers is that the most important functions (cues, loops, beatjump are nearby and we don't need to switch between them) it always annoyed me in other controllers. I use these functions in almost every track.
Therefore, there are no complaints about the traktor controllers, but I do not like how this is implemented in the graphical interface, when we control the traktor with the mouse.
I think the move tab can be done a bit more to another.

I think that different Move modes are a useful feature in Traktor, there were often situations when I missed and put the loop in the wrong place and would like to quickly move the loop to the left or right, in Traktor this is possible, unlike other programs, but I would said you should to make it more easier to use (in program interface/controllers)


You can also improve the Move in your next controllers by adding another Mode button to switch directly from the controller to the 4 motion modes (beatjump, in, out, loop)
Also for the Loop function, you can add a manual loop (in, out) for the controllers via the SHIFT function.
Shift + center button = setting the handheld loop

Guys, we dont have keyboard and pad effects..
Concurent softwares had 8 different options on the pad only..
I buy Pioneer DDJ 1000, and i can do everyting with it. Tons of effects etc.. Just can't use traktor with it..
love traktor i really do, but untill they got on the track with others no point to use it anymore.
That new version 3.4.0 we got only smart browser, which is good.

 

Thank you Veneta for your support, I am pleased, I really want the DJ programs to be more advanced. The effect you are talking about I also like, the pads are good for many types of effects. I made a separate concept for the controler od effects, which includes pads, knobs, EQ and sands. Check it out

 

Veneta Generally speaking, I like the rekordbox, but I like the controllers od Traktor

 

You can remap a lot of these effects into the useless Remix Deck mode pads. Actually there are some very good mappings already there. Basically if you know what you are doing with the Mappings, you can do a lot, but I agree, this should come out of the box. On s4, there are 3 modes for the Pads, 2 of them almost useless. I think the best for the software would be NI to allow some override over these modes, and provide us with 2 very useful tools:
1. Instant Effects - Custom effects picked from options, like Gatter, Freeze, Beatmash, Vinyl Break, Tape Delay etc.. and you configure some basic params on each Pad, what should be doing, and how - like Hold/Toggle etc..
2. Samples - You pick samples and load them in banks, save/load bank with samples functionality, and this should be configurable like this:
a/ Synced on/off
b/ One shot/ Loop
c/ Volume Offset

These are things, already pretty much easy to do with other software, so I hope one day we will see it in traktor as well.

 

Not being able to prepare an effect in advance is how to set hot cues every time, when DJ load the track into a deck
Or for example, DJ edited the tags, but after reloading the Traktor, the tags need to be written again

 

Btw there is one more very important thing about the Instant Effects Mode. Software must allow the other Deck pads to apply the effects to the current deck in effects mode. Why? I will explain.

Workflow of DJ is usually like this:
1/ load track A
2/ play
3/ load track B
4/ while waiting for the right place to mix, just do some effects, loops, insert samples, to flavor the boring parts of the songs, or just to make it interesting and increase energy.

So you see that these 3 category of tools - effects, loops, samples are supposed to be on the 3 modes of the deck. Which makes it very unnatural to switch all the time between. And what if we want to make a loop, and effect and a sample all at once?

Thats why I think the software has to allow that the other 8 pads (on deck B)... that are usually FREE and UNUSED!... until we try to constantly switch between the modes while using only the 8 pads on the playing deck A.. that's so ridiculous...
Ok, so I suggest the software would allow to use pads for any deck we want when we are in the Effects mode. It could be done as simple as that: If SHIFT is pressed, apply Effect to the other active deck.

Because the truth is, while playing a Deck the most important thing that I need is a QUICK access to the hotcues. But I also want Quick effects (but not as much as hot cues). So why the f#@! I should not use the UNUSED effects from the other deck that is waiting with a loaded track and does nothing?

 

2. Add preview master deck.
There are situations when you play a track in the master deck and do not know where you want to mix.
The most famous way is to load the same track into a parallel deck and check płace for mixing.
In cdj 3000, this was done by touching the screen with a finger.
In a virtual DJ it works like a virtual sandbox.
No matter what mechanics you use, make it possible to preview the playing track on the master deck

This useful request began already in 2011, I also support this idea.
Many genres are not very well suited for sharp jumps on the track, as usual we can jump from one hot cue to another. For example, such jumps can work in RNB or hip hop, but absolutely do not work in Trance and other atmospheric music. Many DJs faced the same challenge.
That is, when we talk about the bales we have two topics:
- to be able to smoothly move from one hot cue to another (which can be implemented in the fade in/fade out, which I wrote about above)
- and the second task is to quickly change the structure of the track, which can also be realized by improving the function of the fade in/fade out

 

Good suggestions, after 50 years, the may be able to do half of them..

I really think they should hire guys like you with ideas, and coming from the real DJ world, because sometimes I have the feeling in NI they just don't have anyone worked in a club as a DJ to advice on the software.

 

Why? We already got him for free. Lol
