Well...Harvestworks is an amazing place. (I live in NYC)
They seem to only use MAX/MSP though. Al least that's the only class available. Seriously, If they had a Reaktor or Supercollider class/workshop I'd be there in a flash. Definately. Are there enough Reaktor or SC users in New York to be able to get something like that happening? I know that there have been similar posts in this forum about people in various places trying to hook up to share and learn.
Have there been any happy endings?

I'm not sure if Reaktor is really complex enough to warrent such a thing. As for supercollider... I don't see why not.

    Reakor in NYC

I'll be back in NYC in May, I live on W. 4th about 4 blocks from NYU. I'd be up for hanging with some other users and just geeking-out over a couple of drinks if nothing else.

I wonder if "Share" is still happening on Sunday nights at that "Open Air" place on St. Marks and Ave A (?). That was a cool spot/scene for bringing a laptop, drinking, and sharing ideas. We could probably get away with that at "Void" down by Canal St. without looking too geeky as well :).

I'd love to make a "geek hang" in New York. Sounds cool. GIve a shout when you get back. I sent an email to Harvestworks about hosting a SC class/workshop but have not heard back yet. I'll post if I ever hear anything.
    Later, -B

Well.. if I could legally drink.. such a place would sound good. :)

Not that I like to drink anyway... John gets immense stomach pains, owwies.

I know Dezai.. I'm not a loop-based person, so I have no reason to get it, but I love the GUI. ;-)

The csound book is a very good book. Its extremely large and kind of complex tho. The cdroms have loads of stuff on them, but its all free stuff anyway.

Yes, the Csound book definitely rocks. MIT press rocks too. I ordered the book from Amazon, and one of the CDs was bad, so I emailed MIT press, and they sent me a whole new book and CDs 2 day air, and didn't even charge me for shipping or proof that my CD was junk. From now on, I buy everything I can from MIT press.

Is any of this stuff available for PC? (apart from CSound)

I drooled over MAX/MSP until i found it was Mac only.

I like loops, I just don't like the way they are handled in most software right now. I want to be able to record loops of whatever length in live from an audio input and I want the loops to be able to be out of sync with each other... that would be great. Currently I can do everything I want *besides* this in software. I still have carry three looper pedals around with me to handle looping, which is a drag. Maybe Reakor 4's audio tables will be a little better and will allow the creation of these kinds of loop modules. MAX/MSP people have been able to do this kind of thing for ages.

I agree loops are good when playing a show, not for the studio (except for graincloud fodder)
