Let's see once T3 is out, to be honest I'm still a bit sceptical..

I saw a video two days ago where Traktor was used with a Rane72 mixer and another video a while ago where it was used with a Rane62... So I don´t see any point why it shouldn work with the S9 and even if it doesn´t you can get a Rane72 which is basically the same mixer (and costs about the same) anyway. The only thing that might not work is the screen but that´s something I could live with. I´m definitely getting a 72 for xmas...

There are guys in the testing team that have reported that TP3 works just fine with the S9.

As Karlos reports above, TP3 is working fine with the S9 and timecode. We just need a decent MIDI mapping for it.

OK but who will provide the mapping, NI or Pioneer or some hobbyists?

Because I am a paying customer.

One of the big features for Traktor 3 would be that you can connect every mixer without requiring a separate audio interface. What good is that if you still cannot use all its midi functions?

I rest my case. For now I'm still happy with my Z2. Would be nice if there is true compatibility by the time I need a new mixer.

    Pioneer.
Because people want the moon on a stick?
You paid NI to use Traktor. You didn't pay NI for the S9. Have you tried asking Pioneer for a mapping?

You can connect a myriad of peripherals to a Windows PC but you wouldn't expect Bill Gates to write the drivers.

All NI have done is said "ok guys, no restrictions, connect what you want from now on" - how much time and resources would they have to put in to write midi maps for all the mixers and sound cards out there.

And why should Pioneer (or Rane for that matter) do that as long as they have a deal with Serato? They won't. And there is no Z3 on the horizon. Bad news for all of us.

Pioneer should do it because they will sell more mixers to Traktor users that want an S9.
If Serato prevent Pioneer from doing it then yes, I agree, the customer loses out. I would have probably bought an S9 a few years ago if it was compatible with Traktor, I'm sure there is a market for Traktor users.

NI have gone half way by allowing other mixers to work with Traktor - the way I see it is the other manufacturers should meet NI half way and create mappings. Seems reasonable to me dude.

I´m confident enough that there is enough expertise out there in the user base to create a mapping that works fine. And MIDI mapping isn´t rocket science either to create one on your own even though it can get pretty deep and confusing at points. If there is no exclusive deal between companies it is in their interest to provide a proper mapping like Karlos said and no one here can tell if that is the case or not.

And sometimes it really baffles me what people think their money will buy them. Just yesterday someone called at the venue I work at and asked if for the ticket price of 17,50$ they would provide dinner for the audience since she thought the ticket was expensive. This attitude is actually pretty insulting to everyone actually working for a product/service...

    Interesting discussion.
I think, pragmatically, in the end this is dictated by which company is leading the market and which company is following the market.

Historically those 2 positions have been interchangeable - although, you might just be proposing a false dichotomy.
Maybe one carves their own way in the market and one merely floods it?

I am currently in process of mapping S9 to Traktor. There are some limitations on LED output of some buttons but other than that and several incorrect midi Note message information on Pioneer site it's all good.

I've been searching everywhere for a straight answer.

Can the Pio S9 be used with Traktor, WITHOUT any restrictions on the mixers functionality???

Is the h/w "audio cut out" still present when using certain S9 mixer effects? Is there an issue with LED output on certain (not all) buttons/pads?

Or, is the S9 now, a fully mappable, fully DVS capable, unrestricted functionality, combined battle mixer & midi controller?

Because, I'm DESPERATE to consolidate my full set-up (DJM-850, Zomo-MC100 & Novation Dicers) into that pretty little Pio S9 mixer!!!

I guess nobody here knows... Unfortunately I don't know anyone with an S9 else I would have borrowed it for a few days to test it myself.

With Traktor Pro 3 you can fully use all the S9's features: DVS through internal sound card(s), MIDI mapping of mixer controls etc. I use the S9 in this way with turntables/DVS.
