SV LP4 resonance spikes

I am making my first Kontakt instrument, and am running into a problem with the SV LP4 filter. With the resonance up high it is possible to get some really nasty resonance spikes (+30db). Loud enough for my DAW to automute the channel that Kontakt is on.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Drop a sample into Kontakt.
    2. Add an SV LP4 filter as a group insert effect.
    3. Add an AHDSR envelope as a modulation source for the SV LP4. Leave its default settings.
    4. Turn the SV LP4 cutoff and reso to 0.
    5. Start turning the reso knob up while playing your sample. At about 55% an audible resonant "click" begins, as the resonance spike causes the output volume to exceed 0db. At about 65% my DAW will automute. The exact percentages depend on the sample and where it being played on the keyboard.

I don't experience the same problem with the Ladder LP4, or the SV LP2.

Is normal for the SV LP4? If so, is it possible to put constraints in place (script based or otherwise) that stop the volume/resonance spike? Or is the SV LP 4 not usable at high resonance values?

It's normal, and no, you cannot put constraints. If you need a cleaner, less peakey filter, use AR filter types.

Also bear in mind that input gain can also influence how the resonance responds, so try and lower the volume of the sound BEFORE it hits the filter.

Thanks for the reply EvilDragon! I have decided to use the 3x2 filter instead, which sounds great and doesn't seem to have the same problem.

Huh. Maybe best to steer clear of that one then. I guess I'll just try them all and choose the lesser evil!

EDIT: Man, that bug is nasty! So NI didn't fix that between version 4 and 5? I think I'll go with your suggestion of the AR 4 filter, it does sound better than the 3x2. Thanks for your help.
