this is probably a breeze for you programming types, but i'm wondering if there is any way to swing the arpeggiator in the SOFA ensemble. there's a switch for triplets but no swing factor. right know i'm exporting the loops in ableton live and swinging the audio in there, but it is really time consuming... i love SOFA for basslines. i think it is one of the best ensembles out there, but all i need is some swing!

i dont remember how the clock works in sofa, but for any clock that is a count (like, song pos or clock to accumulator), theres a fairly simple way to do swing:

put the clock count into a modulo. for B, you set the beat witht the delay, so for a 2 here you get a delayed note every 2 beats, a 4 every 4 beats, etc. then, the modulos mod output goes into an order, out 1 into a compare, B value 0. this drives a relay, the 0 input is a constand of zero, the 1 input the swing amount (in ms). you put this into a delay module's delaytime. then, the order's second out goes into the delay's input. this effectively delays only the clock steps that send a zero out the modulo. you can mess with the modulo and compare's B inputs for differant results. also, you can use the tempo info module to find the time of a beat subdivision you are using (1000/tempo info for quarter note length in ms), to make the swing amount always right for the sequencer speed (you dont want it to be higher than the clock length).

the clock in sofa is not a typical. maybe the best place to put a swinger is in the Rom macro? pathway Arpeggio -> ROM.

i enclose a picture of a swinger made by Martin Brinkmann. the other picture shows
where to place it. i have not had time to find out if it works ;-)

    thanks for all the help.

is this something i could do myself without any reaktor programming background? is it simply a drag and drop operation? will a swing % come up on the GUI or is that another process?

    thanks!

don't my enclosed pictures help enough?

the second picture shows where the macro is to be placed. the first picture shown the modules that go in the macro.

okay - i'm new to this. actually, i've never ever made anything in reaktor before but i'm gonna try my best and figure this out. so i figured out where the swinger should go, which took some double click exploring... now this 'swinger' macro is from martin brinkman? where would i find this module? can you just copy and paste from one of his ensembles? and if so, which ensemble? i don't think i know enough to be able to make the thing from scratch just based on that first picture...

thanks for your patience and help!

    all the best,

Okay, I assembled the macro according to the screenshot. I'm afraid it doesn't swing... but maybe I overlooked something? Give it a try...

it does swing, but maybe not in sofa... in brinkmann's ensembles it swings a count of 1-16. the place where i put it seemed to be the ideal place, but maybe it isn't?

i give up, i don't know where to put a swing macro in this ensemble, sorry.

That's what I meant - it doesn't swing the sofa. Of course, I would never doubt Brinkmann's ability to swing ;o)

I was this weekend jamming with a spacerockband, and I used sofa as an vst in Live 5.2. So we had this really cool & nasty arpeggio going on (together with a sherman filter) and start playing with it, for some reasen the Sofa speeded up at a certain point and than get back again to the normal BPM. It made the drummer really crazy. Anny thoughts on that one?

Sorry, no idea - never had Sofa acting up that way. Regarding Live's feature to warp, could it be you had some audio files inside the song?

Could be, i just imported the sofa into an existing song (to save time, it takes ages to open a new set in Live) . I did check if there was no midirouting to the Sofa, but very quickly; There where 3 people with "real instruments" waiting and nagging about computers ;-)

    so, 2 musicians and a drummer ;-)

just say Reaktor had a bit too much to drink before the gig, maybe the drummer will understand that.
