I am enjoying FM8 so far. Is it possible to add the SY77 waveforms and algorithms to the program? The SY77 waveforms are on pages 122-123 (PDF 134-135) of the SY77 manual and the algorithms are on page 6 of this PDF. I really enjoyed the SY77 while I had one and sometimes it is nice to be able to start off with something that could plausibly have been done on the machine. I have also enjoyed the OPL2 and OPL3 synthesizers found on many sound cards in the past.

For a future version, I think it would be awesome to add

    * an audio input that can be used as a source for an operator
    * a MIDI output/thru (one purpose for this is to trigger a sample for the external audio input)
    * a separate multimode filter and envelope section
    * a separate amp envelope section

As a side note. On page 83 of the manual, it says that the filters are each 24dB/octave when I think it should means to be 12dB per octave.

It has most of the SY waves already (those that originated on the TX81Z); in principle the rest could be added, but don't hold your breath. FM8's operators are freely routable, so there's nothing stopping you from replicating the SY's fixed algorithms; you could even save them to the FM Matrix menu if you felt so inclined.
This is essentially what the IN operator is for.
This is a job for your DAW and not the plugin (for one thing, certain plugin formats, e.g., AU can't transmit midi data at all).
I'm not sure what you mean here--separate from what? Are you proposing some function that's not already served by the Z operator and/or the aggregate envelope controls on the Easy/Morph page?
That's correct, that is a typo. They are 12dB/oct.

IN operator - check! I was so focused on the other operators, I didn't even notice.

MIDI output/thru (I could see some utility if FM8 is being used in standalone mode), but I would route this through Ableton myself. Though I have seen some people talk about the arpeggiator.

I saw the envelope controls on the easy/morph page, but I was talking more about the same type of envelope you see on the operators. As far as the filter goes, I was thinking the one on the Z operator (the classic 12/24dB Low/Band/High Pass type filter). It just makes more sense to me anyway to have 8 operators that are identical to each other and then a global section to manage the entire voice.

And actually, I did have a really good idea and that is to put an effects section after each operator like a delay. I was playing around with a modular setup and I did this really cool echo feedback sound.

The SY77 routings is more of a nicety as a way of allowing everyone to have the routings as defaults. Like I said, it's about being "able to start off with something that could plausibly have been done on the machine."
