    Hi there,

There's been no visible activity at the official support forum on anything for 2 months so I'm posting this here hoping someone will
have an idea how to fix this.

Earlier today I was attempting to adjust the Reverb in the Symphony Essentials Brass Ensembles and none of them are able to be changed.

    In the ensembles:
    Tuba
    Horns
    Trombones
    Trumpets

None of the 4 above are able to have the reverb adjusted.
None of the reverb control knobs have any effect on the sound of the reverb.
Also, changing the reverb type doesn't do anything.

I tested on the strings to make sure I wasn't missing some trick but it's very straight forward and functional on the strings.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to approach repairing this issue would be very welcome.
    Thank you!

    Steve

Are you sure you've clicked the little button next to the effect? For example, in the attached screenshot, I've enabled Reverb by clicking that little circle to the left of it:

    Thank you David,
I wasn't before, but just tried it now and yes controls are now active for the reverb when that small circle is highlighted.
    BUT ...
When the little circle is turned off, the brass is still very wet like in a very large empty hall.
Do you get the same result when you turn off your reverb for the brass?

It's probably how brass was sampled then.

And the busses to reverb are potted down? But as evil said, the sample is not totally dry to begin with.

    Michael,
Not sure what the busses are but the little Tick Circle that enables the reverb is off.

I work in Logic X. When I load Symphony Essentials Brass, the Channel Strip loads up with 2 Send Effects to 2 different Reverbs. But even with the Send potted all the way down, and the Effects Button off, the sample does have a bit of a reverb tail. It sounds like the instrument was sampled in a space with some reverb. It's not a sample of a horn played in a small dead room.

It's not much of a reverb tail imho. If you wanted to "deaden" it further, I wonder how it would work by putting a noise gate on the channel strip, set to a particular threshold that would kill the signal at a certain level, essentially cutting off the reverb tail.

    Thanks Michael.
I have other libs with dry brass so I'll not worry about these.

The sampling was done in a church, and there is a lot of reverb baked into the samples. Since the Essentials version does not have an option to select close mics, I don't think there's much you can do. If you're trying to get a more intimate sound, you'll want to explore other libraries for sure. In my opinion, NI's brass libraries are more suited for creating epic movie soundtracks.

Yep... that'd be called, Marketing. Getting on my entire nerves as well. Can't afford the big boy version but I can afford a gate that I already have!

I was just about to post about the Marimba in this series having a "baked in" reverb tail on the samples. There's an option to add reverb to this "reverbed" sample which is like adding water to diluted fruit juice...
