doesn't seem like there's a lot of AS listeners here (or 14 year old girls who love them, haha.) why don't you post a sound clip or youtube link to the tone... that usually stirs up some guys to work out a preset..

I listened quite a bit to Waking the Fallen and City of Evil, but never looked up the rig. I couldn't possibly say anything specific because I haven't kept up, but I think the best place to start tone tweaking for a mid-heavy, articulate metal sound would be either the JCM800 or JMP model with the Tube Screamer model in front of it. I think the JMP might give you a nice high end grit, and the JCM800 would give you a smoother, more consistent tone.

And maybe switch to your neck pickup or go halfway for solos. Or that's what I remember hearing!

I agree, you can try the marshall amps to try to get that sound. The tube screamer will help too.

For most generic metal tones (unless you want one of the obvious out of the box classic amp sounds: marshall / rectifier / soldano) I use the MezZone distrortion as an "amp" into control room.

If I don't plan on double tracking (if my riff is a bit too difficult for me to play twice perfectly) I'll split the signal into two mezZones into two different control rooms panned 30 to 35% apart (left and right). One will be a bit more mid heavy and the other will be scooped a bit.

You can get pretty close to newer a7x sounds this way, or something you'll probably be happy with.
