I'm trying to synchronize Ableton Live 6 & Traktor Scratch Pro over a single ethernet crossover cable (via ipMIDI), with Traktor as the master MIDI clock application. This causes the BPM in Ableton to fluctuate constantly, assuring that no matter what I do it will be out-of-beat. Hitting the "SYNC" button in the Master Clock pane of Traktor will fix it for about a measure or two, but it goes right back to its old tricks almost immediately. Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?

I read it. That's not what I'm talking about.

The tutorial assumes that both computers have audio interfaces with MIDI ports, I only have one audio interface (Audio 8) when I perform live, I don't have another smaller interface to use when performing. So I'm trying to make this work by just connecting the two computers via Ethernet.

I will try screwing around with the latency to see if that does anything, but is this generally a bug that's impossible to fix 100% of the time?

I have Live, but haven't sync'd it with Traktor. By the sound of the thread it seems to be less than perfect and others have some tricks that might help. The thread mentions using a single controller mapped to midi control of the tempo in both programs to keep them in sync and includes a link to DjTechTools:

Run a search on live and pro.

The problem is the same if you're on one computer or two.

At the moment I`m experimenting with the ipMIDI Plugin.
    http://www.nerds.de/en/download.html

I have tried synching with Apple`s IAC, but for some reason the clock was not as stable (maybe other data was streamed as well?)...

I`m testing this on a Gbit network going through a GigaBit switch, and it`s still not as tight as MTC or SMPTE. :D
The Plugin claims that it can be used with hubs/switches, but I will try a simple Crossover Ethernet cable as well.

A dedicated rock solid TimeCode and WordClock sync could be a feature to think about for the new Audio8 DJ Pro interface. ;)

    Things to consider/remember:
Fine tune the clock delay in TP.
(I am using 2 copies of the same song, and a simple pattern from Sonic-Charge µTonic.)
Make sure your beatgrids/BPM`s/warp markers are 110% correct.

Native Instruments need to work on the midi features period.

Imagine going to a party where every dj in every room is syched by master clock. This isn't happening yet, wifi or midi-wise...

    Can't wait for this feature!
