I had a good laugh with some friends as I tested out the Maschine 1.6.2 on my Mac Mini, iMac and my POS Dell Laptop.

Both Macs are running 10.6.7, the mini is obviously inferior (well to me) to my iMac in processor and RAM specs. They both have a hard time running Maschine, as the crashes are frequent when using Reaktor or several other VSTs.

This might sound crazy, but the POS Dell is more stable than both Macs running Maschine. Other applications vary of course (Massive is always a problem child on the Dell as is Kore 2) but the Maschine will crash at least two to three times when using something like Razor, Spark, BlueMatrix, Space Drone, etc.

I'm sure I have to figure out some fun settings on the Mac that will prevent these application crashes, but I've tweak out the PC to be fool proof.

Fool as in me, I'm sure some of the other ding dongs on this forum could break the best computer programs on the most top of the line systems.

So do tell how the new Maschine compares on your systems.

I have a 2010 17" macbook pro. 4gb, i7, SSD blah blah. I use an external sound card, firewire SaffirePRO 24 DSP

Maschine has never crashed. Not even once.

That being said, I get CPU limitations very quickly because it cannot (as I understand) take advantage of the threading and cores in the i7 (or any multi core cpu).

When/if its updated to multicore, I expect anywhere from 2-4 times increase in performance when running multiple vsts. I guess it depends on how they write it. Fingers crossed!

    Btw,
I run Massive, Reaktor > Razor. I frequently have to bounce these down to samples so my CPU doesn't choke.

Razor and Massive are beasts on CPU's for sure. I do hope it will be updated to multicore for threading. No point in having 4 or more processors otherwise.

JK, there's always a point to having multiple processors.

i'm on a pc, Win xp, amd Athlon II x3, 3x 3.1 ghz overclocked to 3.6 ghz. one of the huge advantages of pc: overclocking. i'm sorry for you mac guys, but you obviously want it this way :) . anyway, maschine runs very stable, but i always use it as a vst inside Live, just to run my master fx's, sometimes also group fx's on another cpu. reaktor, kore player, all no problem. nonetheless, multicore is a must.

    cheers

AMD, Win XP. No problems on Maschine 1.5, 1.6 b1, 1.6 b2. Since b3 - minor problems. Now with 1.6.2 two big crashes during standalone composing.

    Zero crashes here.
    Maschine 1.6.2 on an iMac.
Both with core audio and a Lynx Aurora (96Khz sampling).

MacBook 2.4C2D 4GB RAM Mac OS X 10.6.7 and Maschine 1.6.2: few random crashes, mostly Guitar Rig VST based, I think. Generally pretty stable.

    4Gb of ram
    500Gb 7200rpm hybrid drive

    Rock solid performance...zero crashes.

i only use maschine in stand-alone mode though. then i export into logic for vocals/mixing/mastering.

Wow, I've just done some tests... If I run Maschine as a VST through Live, but treat it as standalone (ie, all DAW operations are through maschine), I can run a heap more VSTs.

I guess the only downside to this is that Live crashes a lot more frequently than Maschine :D
