Tempo stretching and beat matching in Maschine: is there an easier way?

I just familiarized myself with the time stretch feature on Maschine by reading the manual. However when I load a sample onto a pad and go to "edit" and "time stretch" the auto detect feature has the BPM way off. This is true even when I load a sample that is a loop and has a clear kick drum tempo set. What I have to do then is correct the tempo by tap tempting the metronome until my sample loops perfectly, then input that into the "detected tempo" section and stretch it the way I want to.

Is this just the way the auto-detect feature is? or is it a bug? or am I doing something wrong? Virtual DJ has a pretty good beat detection algorithm, so I think it can be done.

i find that if i use 1, 2, or 4 bar loops it is very accurate.

It's way off for loops with unusual time signatures (like 5/8).

The detect algo is very basic and just can't handle any curve balls. If the sample length is around 3 bars but the tempo of the material is based on 4 bars, Maschine will not be able to handle that. Another words, if you take a sample @90 BPM from a 4 bar loop and truncate to around 3 bars it trips up the detect. Also as mentioned above, odd meters is a no go. I think the algorithm could use improving. For now, try and feed it only 1,2,4,8 etc. bar length phrases with even meters. Anything else you will need to do manually.

That is why many of us use Ableton Live for audio, with Maschine as a VST....
Even a basic version of Live will work....

I have Logic which has a badass time stretching feature. Basically you can take any loop, drag a loop section across the amount of bars in the song you want it to conform to and press a button and it time stretches the audio to conform to the markers.

I thought live intro didn't have warping abilities, isn't that what auto sync/loops phrases in time ?
