I purchased a copy of Bandstand today after trying out a cracked
version (1.0.0.1) that I downloaded from the web a week or so ago. I am truly impressed.
I have been working as a musician\entertainer for over tweny five years and was there when "midi" was first conceived in the 80's. At that time, there were no midifiles available, no internet, and Bill Gates was still muddling along in DOS. I recieved my midi education "hands on" with a Roland MC 500 (dedicated sequencer) and a very intensive but thorough manual. No instructors. No websites. No help. Just hundreds of hours putting together midifiles learning along the way.
I've always used a midi setup on stage playing live as a single act, amd my first multi-timbral instrument was an Ensoniq SQ 1.
It was state of the art at the time.
Since that time, I followed the advances in the technolgy and implemented them along the way... Korg M1, 03, Kurzweill, Alesis qsr and the D4 (which I still own), and my most current aquisition being a Yamaha Motif rack.
Over the years, I've learned that a multi-timbral synth playing midifiles can sound fantastic in the studio, however bringing it into a live situation in a noisy bar playing at high volumes can be a sonic disaster. Like night and day. Thick, lush sounds stacked on top each other can compete with your vocals and live instruments, leaving you fiddling with your mix all nite long. Thin sounding samples lose their integrity at high volumes, carrying too little presence and believability.
Enter Bandstand. Great thick bass to build your sounds on. A bass Kick with enough point to hear it through the mix and enough bottom to complement the bass. Instumental sounds that fit into a mix without competing with each other. Lots of presence yet transparent enough to sing through. I could go on, but IMO, bottom line this product is worth twice the money and I would have paid it. Add to this the simplicity and depth of features and you have a superb unit. You people at NI obviously did your homework putting together this excellent piece of software. Bravo! And thank you!

I endorse Gypsy's remarks. People are always quick to point out shortcomings in products but very slow to praise the good things! Let's have some better guitar samples and things will be near perfect! ;o)

Sure enjoyed my first time-constrained visit to your website!
I can relate on SO many levels with the exception that your success continues..... I copped out after 30 years of being ripped by club owners and dealing with "other musicians" and dedicated myself to the day job. Now I'm just another 'wish I hadda been' with fond nostalgic memories that the kids can't relate to and are tired of hearing about !! Of course, the grand-kids think it's cool when I pull out an axe and run a few riffs that just aren't as fast or as accurate as they used to be. Oh - wait a minute: just listened to one of the old Wollensak mono open-reel tapes and, yes, they ARE as fast and accurate as they used to be.

Thanks for the invite to your website. I'll be back a few times, I'm sure. There is certainly content for everyone !!!

    Peace,

    Dave
