What do you guys do about writer's block. I usually just wait it out, but there has to be a more productive method? What are yours?

Writer's block is just a state of mind. Forget it. Now.

Keep jamming and recording stuff. If you get stuck, save it and start again. Repeat this. You'll eventually get to something you want to stick with. Or you'll return to a previous track and develop that.

Just keep at it. Every track you make isn't going to be made of gold.

There are a ton of things to do. I like Mr36's comments as well, just open a new project, try a random kit, try anything, if it sucks save it and try again. I have at least 2 dozen maschine projects saved that are one kit, one synth, one bar that I recorded, hated, and left. They're still worthwhile because of the effort. Basketball players still miss shots while they practice.

One idea, pick a track and force yourself to sample from it. Pick a random track from iTunes, first thing that comes up, you must sample it and go from there. Try to remake a favorite song of yours, remake it from scratch without sampling. Take a pre-made loop in Maschine as a base, add other parts to it, and then go back and rework it.

I read a great article one time on djworx or one of those websites about putting together beats. I'll mess it up if I try to duplicate it, but the general idea was to put down a 2bar loop. Something simple, but something you make. Work on that 2-bar loop until it's something cool that you like. Then duplicate it and make it an 8-bar loop. Then make 4 copies of that. Take the first one, add something, a new sound or bass or whatever. Then take the second and add something different than you added to the first, and so on. Then go back through and change up something about the original loop in each of them, adding extra hi hats, dropping out kicks for emphasis, anything to differentiate them. Then after that listen to each one individually, if they sound the same, repeat the process until they don't.

Thank you guys so much for your replies and words of wisdom. I'll take them to heart and practice hard. Everyday I open up my comp and try something even if it's not good I do learn something new or a more efficient way to do things.

My new album release on the netlabel Zorch Factory Records.
Not written solely on maschine but there are quiet a few beats from NIs little box of wonders.
I got influenced by many styles on this one. It pairs dark ambient music with rock/metal, industrial and trip hop.
Experimental as hell but if you want to have this Silent Hill atmosphere in your living room then this might be for you ;)
    Hope you guys enjoy
