When the Ren came out the Lcd was already dated, so making it touch was the obvious next move giving that Maschine Studio had colour screens since 2013.

N.I, music technology is what they do for a living, do you honestly think these guys are sitting back an eating pop corn. They are meeting and planning for future devices.

It's the internet. If these companies listened to everything being said....they will be bankrupt. It's been 7 years since we had a standalone sampling workstation on par with an MPC. Roland stopped making the MV series long ago. Roger Liinn/Dave Smith reversed course and decided against it...releasing the Tempest instead.

I created a poll in our Facebook group asking the question. The majority of people responding says that want hardware. But when the discussion turned to prices...they started saying $800, $1200, etc. There is no way a company can produce quality hardware at that price.

This is truer than we'd like to believe...we lost something in the rush to embrace all these glittering gadgets and new tech...come on guys...join me in a collective smash up of all things technological :)...side note...I once saw a performance art piece in New York based on this very concept. A giant man with an executioner mask and sledge hammer proceeded to smash objects laid out in the street on a white plastic carpet with a red dot painted on it for each item. It was actually pretty visceral and pieces of stuff went flying everywhere. I'm surprised no one got hit. Of course there was some heavy industrial music playing in the background ;)

No no, according to the internetz NI is doomed, DOOOOMED.

...because some guys came up with a touch screen, like NI were not doing R&D with touch screens since years and possibly trashed prototypes because weird workflow.

That might be true...after all, the touch screens can only work as well as the code...Oh!!! See what I did there?

Well I have to say this is the first time I've received a 'thumbs up' and a 'thumbs down' from the very same person (scratches head)?

When I say they should fix the app, I whole heartedly agree with you about retronyms. They should put mpc software on the iPad is what I should have probably said.

Retronyms are a terrible company to deal with from a user perspective, even going as far as promising things to the customers, no following through, removing trace of the promise online and then saying they never made the promise (i.e.; mpc export).

My hope is that akai will just make iPad version of MPC software that will work with their fly or element or they make another "better" controller. Then there re really is no need for this MPC TOUCH.

Problem is, maschine should have allowed connectivity with their controllers and an iPad and GREATLY IMPROVE the iPad experience. This would have given users the touch screen experience with a great controller A LOOOOOONG time ago.

Don't get how they've managed to accomplish that so well with Traktor but not even get midi in iMaschine.

On Maschine studio press SHIFT+CHANNEL. I guess that turns it into a banana :)

Wondering if Mpc ren users would be able to use the touch screen features introduced into 1.9 for the touch ,if they where using a touch screen monitor ,surface pro , or iPad connected via duet display .

There is a handful of people who wrote that. Just like there were a handful of people spelling doom for Akai evertime NI drops something.

Just silly internet / nerd **** (that we are all guilty of) not to be taken very seriously. Both companies are still here releasing products and this doesn't appear to change anytime soon.

Truth be told, I have seen more negative stuff about the new MPC then positive whether points made are valid or not. These tech guys at Sonic State implied an MPC without a plethora of I/O is nuts. This sounds silly as sh!t. MPC is Software. Who routes audio out of your computer just to route it back into it? Of course there may be a few people who would waste their time doing that (I want to capture the sound of my converters...lol). But the majority of people will keep the audio inside their computer, export (or drag n drop) and import into your DAW of choice.

No. But the MPC software has always been able to be used with a touch screen monitor. It just isn't optimized for it. Same functionality as using a mouse or track pad.

I personally like the MPC Touch, looks like it would be a fun piece to use, will it do anything different than my maschines or my mpc, i don't think so. But i give credit to Akai for making a small compact piece with audio interface and touch screen. I think the 799us price point is fair. This will hit home with a lot of people. I think it would have been better if one could use their already owned iPads/tablets as an extension to their Maschine/MPCs, and not that mirroring display stuff, because you can't use multitouch. But Kudos to Akai for this. Don't worry NI, the workflow of maschine is the main reason that maschine is my go to software. And, i don't see that changing.

The MPC Ren/Studio already has plenty of buttons and knobs to control the MPC Software. The Touch removed many of these physical controls due to the touch user interface. I would take dedicated physical buttons and knobs over an iPad app any day.

i like physical knobs and buttons too, but it wouldn't hurt to have touch options..

To take development time away from the things that most people desire? So Akai's small team of developers would have to code for the Ren/Studio, MPC Touch, and also code for an iPad? Why stop there? Code so that MPDs can be used with the MPC Software. Code so that those people with Maschine can use its MIDI Control Mode to control the MPC Software.

None of this is realistic or feasible. Whether you use Maschine or an MPC...there are hundreds of more important features that have been requested....that people are waiting for...

Generally I only use my iPad with maschine for an overall view of the gui ,I've not got a monitor at the mo , I do most from the screens on the controller , it's handy if I want to see things without switching the view on the controller screens ,like quickly selecting a different pattern or scene , it's also good for editing modulation which I can't do from the controller ,
I don't really use it for the touch screen I mainly use the mouse , or my keyboard , but the options there , now my maschine is in storage I'm gonna use it a bit more tho .

True, can't argue here.. both companies can do a lot of work on the software side of things, before pushing new hardware out.
