MPC Touch screen can be used to name samples, programs, and sequences. Something that has been missing from the MPC Ren/Studio

So how exactly typing in a touch screen improves your workflow compared with typing in a much faster keyboard that you already have there because you are forced to have a PC anyways?

And the you drop again the video where the guy is suspiciously not even allowed to power up the thing. Is amazing how easily people is fooled.

    By definition from Wikipedia:

In the computer industry, vaporware is a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually manufactured nor officially cancelled.

So far Akai have not announced any plans to make the product and we are not sure in what state the product is at. putting a screen and a controller together running the MPC studio doesn't mean it's a working or even practical product. Until the product is manufactured and released it is vapourware as defined by wikipedia.

That being said it would be a cool product but there is no indication from that video that Akai is taking a standalone MPC with windows embedded seriously. So far it's a proof of concept. Nothing more.

Just think practically Windows embedded would cost more than a custom Linux solution which is most manufacturers use (Korg), especially for this kind of device. But who knows, they may make it work. For now it's all talk.

it's as simple as NDA on software v1.9 that touch come with...

    anyway:
    http://blog.zzounds.com/2015/10/07/interview-inside-the-akai-mpc-touch/

    Pete:
This release will be called version 1.9 because of this entirely new way of interacting with the MPC. There’s a whole load of major features added that the Touch UI uses — but that existing customers [running MPC Renaissance or MPC Studio] can use too: independent track lengths, individual insert bypass, massively improved master mixer section, pad color control, continuous loop sample addition — a whole load of stuff.

So it’s not just that we’ve taken the existing MPC, and slapped a touch UI on it — there’s a load of extra new features in here as well. And development has not stopped here…There’s a whole road map of very strong stuff that’s coming later down the line, which if we told you about now, we’d have to kill you…so stay tuned.

It's funny how they mention the limitations of the iPad.

Looks like none of these guys have done their research or own an iPad.

I so hope retronyms had nothing to do with this.... lets hope they didn't get that close to the iPad

I really believe that this is a fork in the road for this competition and it looks like how it's going to go might just be more foreseeable than previously thought. Akai has obviously seen the benefits of striking first blood, now they are keeping us occupied with the initial offering of the mpc touch. Native instruments will respond, and then Akai will respond.... after akai responds with a stand alone mpc/hybrid which I really do think is going to happen, the ball will be in natives court again.... I do not think native is going to respond with a stand alone maschine therefore the two competitors will really start to distinguish themselves because they will officially be going in different directions imho.....I don't have any evidence of this outside of info that is readily available but I'm saying it right here and right now, there will be an hybrid/stand alone mpc and if I am wrong i will send skinsfandc a gift card for an order of potato skins at tgif and a royalty free beat that I made exclusively on maschine that he can use over and over again as many times as necessary to further his musical career!

I think retronyms initially did do a good job with the app. But they dropped the ball on the library management and excluding MPC export in the pro version is huge.

I would love to hear these guys response to "Why are you unable to create an app similar to NanoStudio, FL Studio HD, Beatmaker 2 or any of the other music making apps with TONS more functionality than iMPC Pro".

But you four or five months ago were bashing the heck out of NI and the Komplete Kontrol hyping up the akai advance. Then all of sudden with the komplete kontrol update you said you wanted to wait lol.

Faster? How so? Everyone is typing on the cellphones and iPads these days.

The MPC Touch is positioned to do more on the actual controller than the MPC Ren/Studio as well as Maschine Studio/MKII. Naming your files is just one of the new features. If I am working on a hardware controller that can access all the software features...why would I want to reach for a keyboard and mouse? If I wanted to do that, I would just keep using the MPC Ren/Maschine.

Suspicious? It is just an unboxing video like all the other unboxing videos online. lol It is just another teaser. Stay tuned...

This has been one of the top feature requests for MPC Ren/Studio users. Disappointed that we don't have this functionality especially since all other MPCs can do this...

well tbh, keyboard will always be faster than any method they'd come up with for controllers.

Disagree. The fact that you have to take your focus off of the controller to reach for the keyboard makes the process slower.

But to each his own. You can still use your keyboard. But as you type (using the touch keyboard or physical keyboard) you are doing it directly on the touch display as opposed to taking your focus off of the controller to look up at your computer monitor.

Does not matter how much u spend on NI products; or how devoted u are to learning NI products for the next 20 years it wont make u a talented producer.

Me I like NI but feel they were better in the1.6 maschine era; when they acted on user suggestions.

but after using machine for 5 years exclusively it got boring worfklow wise; despite me having mastered what I needed to know about maschine, so no product hopping in that scenario.

But I like to roll with whichever company listens and delivers the best product; no company allegiances for me; its all about who provides the best features and workflows.

So the reason I still post here is I still have an appreciation for NI; and hoping they get back to their 1.6 ethos.

Also u like to make up nonsense and than argue that nonsense to make ur argument seem stronger but its all a deflection.

There is no anti NI campaign from me just constructive critique; no need for u referencing industry producers cos that does nothing for ur argument that is not ur life.

However u certainly have an anti-akai agenda; as u can never acknowledge anything they do well; while I can openly acknowledge that NI are the best at software.

I have seen u on gearslutz under the name spore with a cape on for NI and attacking akai; so u are the one making a career out of NI devotion and akai hate.

The funny thing is...many of us own products by several manufacturers and have much better things to do than saying one product sucks and the other product is better...especially when they do pretty much the same thing.

Does it really matter if you have Maschine but bought the Advance Controller because it has features that didn't previously exist on the Komplete Kontrol? Or wether you use the MPC Ren with Komplete Kontrol, Komplete and NI Expansion packs instead of Akai keyboards and plugins? Hell naw...lol.

Besides...this particular thread is about a new Akai product..1 of 2 active threads. There are thousands other threads specially dedicated to aspects of Maschine, Komple Kontrol, etc. I would think it would be more productive to post in the appropriate thread(s).

*Note - I was one of the very first people here to discuss what I didn't like about the Akai Advance Controller but was attacked for commenting on it....lol
